Yeah but NHL players will also cross check each other in the face over shooting the puck into an empty net the wrong way, so I don't think it's hard to see why something seemingly insignificant like this would cause issues.

Lol. This happened during this years SHL playoffs. Färjestad started to shoot pucks at the Skellefteå goalie during warmup the game before this. Then Skellefteå shot pucks at Färjestad during the game after:
