How would a team comprised of NHL all-stars do in a bandy game? Given time to train, could they be competitive at the World Championships?

After watching 10 minutes of the video, it appears to be a hypnotic festival of guys stick handling in gigantic circles while constantly teasing an offensive attack that never materializes.
Shows how ignorance is a bliss.

If you don't understand the game it appers boring to you.

Not a chance. A totally different type of athleticism needed. Hockey players are sprinters.

It did work the other way round though. Many early soviet hockey players were initially bandy players. The emphasis on endurance and skating became a brand of soviet hockey partially because of those roots.

I don't think anyone else than Russians care about bandy.

Also, i've always felt bad for the goalies in that sport.

Never heard about brandy before this... interesting. The poster who said its alot of passing without a play that materializes hit the nail on the head. Alot of lateral passing and fancy moves that dont really lead to anything... reminds me alot of soccer, however more lateral movement than stretch plays. Sorry if i piss off any fans. First take
Second take everytime one player tries to move the puck into the other teams zone it looks like an unending loop of push em back entries like the one used on powerplays

Hockey players will die in the middle of the 1st half on the game. Bandy takes as much stamina as soccer.

Btw a lot of bandy elements (great skating, a lot of passing) melted into Soviet hockey style, which then transfered to the modern NHL game, so people shouldn't think very arrogant about the sport.

As some stated above, hockey players would not stand a chance which is just as it should be since they are different sports.

That's 90 min on a soccer size ice with soccer style substitutions. You should just try and then tell us about your experience.

Playing soccer? I did that from age 4-19, I'm quite ok not playing that sorry excuse of a sport ever again. As for Bandy, cool, massive rink, pass pass pass pass...if I want to see that, I'll watch my Pens on a Powerplay thank you.

I like ball hockey (that is, not on ice, and some NHLers have been quite successful in it), but this marriage of European football with ice hockey doesn't appear to be exactly fortuitous. And it's probably true the game is only truly popular in Russia. Huge country – huge ice rink.

I was hoping this was a floorball thread but it's actually bandy. Thought absolutely nobody watches it even in northern countries.

Teuvo Teräväinen played soccer and floorball along with hockey and it surely helped his career in hockey.

If you gave Sid or McDavid a hockey stick while the other players used a “bandy stick” maybe.

I could see Sid dangling, splitting the defence, etc and McDavid scorching other players.

Very comparable to letting Usain Bolt playing wing in Rugby (McDavid) or having someone with crazy jukes in football play Rugby (Crosby).

It's very popular in Sweden as well. And then Finland, but Finns are behind Russians and Swedes.

You say this as though hockey players could make it further than 10 minutes into a soccer game without having a heart attack...

You say this like you know a hockey player would struggle with that.

You also don't say how a soccer player would get obliterated on the ice rink because feigning some injury for a penalty would get their ass beat, instead of hiding behind a ref and some trainers while their boo-boo is looked after.

I played soccer for 15yrs, hockey for over 25yrs now, I know the conditioning of both.

*waits for, but were you pro like soccer and hockey players?*

Kovy once said, he would die in 25 min if he tried to play a professional soccer match. And Kovy used to play a lot of minutes in the NHL.

lol. Hockey players are so tough and soccer such pansies, so true. I actually did play with pros and would've gone into coaching professionally like a number of my friends did. So please tell me more.
