NHL wants to expand to 36 teams

The first 4 would be my guess as the most likely to get a franchise.

But if they go ahead with the plan (36 by 2030) that's nearly a franchise per year. The players left exposed by the time they get to teams #35 and #36 .... Yikes. Kansas City's top line will be centered by Ryan Reaves.

I think we all know Atlanta and Houston will get teams. As for future expansions because you know they will again Phoenix will get another one as well. Saskatoon Saskatchewan is an interesting one because they are crazy about their CFL team so it'd be interesting to see what kind of environment they'd have for a NHL team.

Surprised Brampton Ontario isn't in the mix
I'd love it, but we don't support hockey here much with shifting demographics. Though certainly based on just geography and population Brampton /Mississauga make sense as a location for Toronto #2. That includes highway access as well. Brampton really lacks a central social hub and any arena project would require a massive swatch of land to be developed from scratch. But there are some key spots where that land exists still.

Came in here to basically comment that the demographics not support an NHL team. Markham/Oakville would make more sense

I will mention that the second Toronto team will have vastly less support than the Leafs. The overall interest in hockey in Ontario is rapidly declining and the Leafs crazy sales are from corporate tickets and generational season ticket holders

36 teams.. many, many fans will never see their team win a title in their lifetime.

No stopping it though. 50 teams by 2060
Exactly, why any fan would be in favor of this is beyond me, most hockey fans are insecure about the NHL being 4th in the major sports and they want to grow the game well here it is, good luck ever seeing your team win it all
