League News: NHL Talk - (News n' Scores n' Stuff) | 2024-25 Playoffs

I think the series is going to come down to whether Washington can score more goals than Montreal 4 out of 7 times. I think if they can do that they'll win the series. If not? I think they could be in trouble.

Montreal scares the shit out of me.
They've been better than the Caps for last month plus, and their 'stars' are about as good or better than ours. They don't have the scoring depth we do, but their depth guys are still good. And they've got enough physicality to give almost as good as they get.

No team scares me more than Washington themselves. Since February 1 no playoff team has given up more goals against than them (3.40 coming into tonight's finale). If they can't find their way against Montreal they realistically weren't going to do it against anyone.

Montreal is certainly capable of up-ending them. Suzuki has been red hot. Caufield & Laine are a couple of guys that can do damage in scramble plays. Washington needs to tighten up in a hurry and you wonder if they're capable of quickly taking charge and commanding the game to that extent. We'll see if they have the sense, focus, discipline and execution to go out and do it. There's little doubting their intensity and resilience. They should have an experience advantage, though I'm unsure if it's that decisive given there's more pressure on them as hosts. I sort of expect a hot mess of a series and we'll see if they're still standing at the end of it.

Goaltending is the wildcard. Caps have two goalies that are capable of supporting a deep run and I have to think one of them will answer the bell, these past several weeks notwithstanding. So I am picking Habs to win in four. Jinx. Edit - Oops wrong thread sry.

How funny would it be if rantanen is just like a 60 point player from now on for the rest of his career away from MacK
Rantanen always stricked me as a Kessel/Kuznetsov player. Elite talent but very one dimensional and not capable of being the man.

Be careful what you wish for, but the Habs would have been my choice.

Their goaltender is ok. They have a good offense, but defense isn’t great.

We should win this with little trouble. If we pound this team, they should wear down.

Well um that’s a big off out of New York.

aside from the obvious, it’s funny that people were holding up this guy as a paragon of virtue and tearing Ovechkin down.

The rangers should buy him out.

Oh damn.

Maybe those rumours from Russia were true?

Panarin thing sure came out conveniently for the Rangers possible rebuild with him potentially waiving his NMC?

I also see that Pionk got 7m AAV. Makes Chychrun's 9 feel more manageable already.

No need to buy him out - he and the Rangers already bought HER out.

Kuznetsov was clearly the man in Caps playoff win. Off course other off ice stuff made him not able to play his best level consistently, but he was a monster in that cup run and had no problems playing Malkin or Crosby.
