NHL Player Wingspan Records?

I started looking up information regarding the size of NHL players (particularly goalies) while mulling over an idea I got from somebody related to the "net size" argument. It occurred to me that while height is a common (albeit commonly misreported) measurement, there doesn't seem to be much public information about a player's effective width. This old blog article shows that other people have at least thought about this, but the author of that post wasn't aware of any such records being available to the public.

I thought I'd ask whether anyone in the historical community has any relevant information about this subject, or if it really is shrouded in mystery as the writer suggests.

Hockey is a bit behind the curve on measuring this sort of thing. Coverage of the NFL and NBA drafts is now full of body measurements down to the eighth of an inch. Gotta know which QB has the longest fingers, etc. In hockey it either doesn't matter as much, or simply isn't tracked as rigorously by publicly-accessible sources.

Wingspan

A few points.

Allowing tall players longer sticks is a recent phenomena, roughly a generation. Previously tall players had to play compacted.

Other sports, wingspan is a stand alone calculation. Hockey necessitates an adjustment for the extended stick.

Goalies are tricky, regardless of size some have a bad habit of "playing small". Referring to goalies who shrink in the net. Most evident in the butterfly where some keep the tighs and torso perpendicular to the ice while others do not, extreme situation where some nearly sit.

I believe a normally proportioned body will have a wingspan that very closely corresponds to height. Almost an exact 1:1 ratio.

That is a good basic standard but is, of course, not 100%. For example my wingspan is 6"s more than my height.

Spread your arms out along a wall and measure. Just about every single persons wingspan will be the same as their height.

I know that "reach" is always included in the boxing "tale of the tape." Are you sure it's not in your data sources under another name?
