It could fundamentally change the way the game is played, maybe for better, maybe for worse.
They should absolutely experiment with it though.
Above all the NHL needs to figure out how to minimize play stoppages. Hockey is at its best when there's less whistles. It's about keeping the action going.

It could work but they would have to tweak some rules. Maybe introduce a 3 line pass rule where you can't pass from your own zone over the other blue line (like now essentially), but once you reach the red line with possession anyone can enter the offensive zone.

Soccer has two 45 minute halves without commercial breaks. Though there are some ads they do not interfere with seeing the action. The NHL could get creative. At this point I'd give in on having ads on player uniforms like in Europe. Also goalies cause too many stoppages.

The only offsides elimination I want to see is if the offending player who is offsides is not directly involved in the play and has to touch up still before being involved in any plays. It drives me nuts especially on line changes where the guy is obviously not involved with the play...
