Spooner is 25, and put up decent numbers (44 pt average the last two years) with subpar wings and in a system that wasn't suited to him. Maybe it's just me, but I think he's more than a throw in.
There are teams (ARI, LV) that could really use him IMO.
But, hey, I'm no Jimmy Murphy.
No but really who is?
Spooner's value IMO is somewhere in the middle of "he's a very good young player" to "throw-in".
He's helped by the fact his actual offensive production since coming into the league has been quite good, essential a Point every 2nd game player, even if it's skewed towards special teams play. He's been part of a fairly successful 1st PP unit.
He's hurt by his arbitration rights and the fact that in this years playoffs, with the Bruins essentially icing a 1st, a 3rd, and two 4th lines once Krejci went down, he still found himself a healthy scratch. That doesn't go unnoticed by hockey people.
I'm not a fan of the kid, but he can be part of a package for a decent return, not the centerpiece, but not a "throw-in" either as Murphy claims he would be.
Bruins shouldn't give him away, but I wouldn't draw a hard line in the sand moving him either. I don't see his value going up much if at all, especially if he finds himself pushed out further by more capable two-way players like JFK and Kuraly next fall.
