Second chances are fine and good, but first you need to face some actual consequences for your bad actions, and I don't think being drafted in the 1st round is any kind of consequence

That plus Montreal with their media and scrutiny is practically the absolute worst place for a controversial pick to be drafted. It's like Bergevin's daring the hockey gods to piss on him.

Oh yes so let's destroy the teenager's life because of the mistake he made as a kid?

It's about playing hockey, not ethics competition.

Nobody's talking about denying him the chance to play hockey forever, it's about not completely ignoring what he did or having him face no true penance for it. Montreal picking him above slot sent the message it doesn't even matter what he did at all. Even the NFL drops kids in the draft when they do creepy, law-breaking things.

This is also the response to @britdevil , since both of you guys seem to have exactly the same point.

I believe that, from the moral standpoint, the responsibility of the punishment that would bring the justice both for him and the victim, falls on the legal system in the country where the crime was committed (I believe it's Sweden in this case). If Swedish court fails to do so, sport leagues shouldn't try to make up for that because it's not their job (sport leagues provide entertainment).

I think you're completely misunderstanding the optics of the situation here...

He was picked, right after Chicago (lol) made a big song and dance about the evolution of women in the sport, by a guy who was in that cursed franchise at the time of their own on-going sex scandal, in the first god damn round. He rescinded from the draft HIMSELF, he asked to not be drafted because even the kid realises how much shit he is in. Bergevin and the Habs have taken the already shitty situation and put it into a pressure cooker.

Aye carumba, too spicy for me. It's an all time horribad f*** up by the NHL.

So the 2nd round starts at 11am and we finish the draft out today?

Also, is the start of Free Agency today? Or is that Wednesday?

Correct on the former...and as for the latter, Wednesday is the beginning of all UFA, no more legal tampering periods.

No more legal tampering unless the team gives you permission like Hamilton, right? Right? Right? :D

Private entities are perfectly entitled to do what they see fit, outside of waiting for any legal proceedings or rulings. Plenty of baseball guys have been suspended and football guys put on commissioner's exempt lists even before any legal process has run its course. Argue the merits of that all you want, but it's not exactly unprecedented to have consequences in players' careers for off-field actions (especially ones where we already know what happened). There were none in this case.

Did we get Timo yet?
I guess they're still ironing out the details!
I had trouble sleeping last night after seeing we drafted Chase Stillman!
No second round pick today, hopefully Fitz makes a deal for immediate help

Over the years I've gone with the expect nothing and you won't be disappointed route.
We could still make a trade for a winger, I hope so
yeah, I've been reading the reviews of this Stillman pick and I'm a little more optimistic today, he could be a Ryan Carter (who I loved) or maybe even a Blake Coleman who we all love, or maybe Miles Woods replacement lets see in a few years right?

Will miss most if not all of day 2 of the draft.

Need some descriptive post please. Thank you :)

I can't even tell you guys how much restraint I have shown in the last 10 or so hours by not commenting on the Mailloux situation.

I have nothing deep or profound to add, I don't even really care or have much of an opinion.... I just really want to make jokes.
