I'd probably have him later in the third.

He has a very clear role, a very clear path. But the upside is somewhat limited. If EVERYTHING comes into place, maybe you get a third line forward. Most likely you're projecting him as a fourth line center, maybe Kyle Chipchura. If it doesn't progress, maybe more like Brodie Dupont.

This is absolutely fine for the 3rd round imo. It's so samey at this point. This can stop us from, say, paying a similar player $3.6M in free agency 6 years from now.

Do you believe this is reacting to Washington or reacting to the past two years and Washington just put a spotlight on it? I feel like for over a year you said they would shift focus, deal out skill for perceived lesser returns to get players they lack, and look to change the mix of players in the org. It seems like that's what they are doing moreso than simply reacting to Washington.

I think it's coming from a specific place.

I actually like this pick. They mentioned his high face off percentage (which we sorely need), is a more focused on the defensive side of the game (which we sorely need), and he's a sob to play against (which we sorely need).

but hold on. let me do what everyone else is doing.

OmG, dRurY SuX, blaahh blaahhh blaahhh overact blah blah overact some more blahh blahh.

Some shameful takes coming out in this thread.

You have no idea what the team's faceoff percentage, of all things, is going to look like in 3-5 years when a third round pick is ready

It will be useful in Hartford to have a good faceoff guy.

We spent some resources last year for grit... We've spent all of our resources this season for grit... there needs to be balance.

Agreed completely. But if we are going to throw a bunch of Jason Wilsons and McNaughts, this is probably the draft to do it.

Well, the thing is, in one scouting report I read, it said he has a serious motor. I think high motor players, especially in later rounds, are great picks. hard working kids, high motors, decent skillsets.

I think it depends on who is on the board.

Kind of like the re-occuring theme of the last few days, it's not the players its the asset management.

It seems like this team, regardless of who is calling the shots, is not comfortable hoping that their coveted player will fall to another pick. They'd rather just pick the guy they want and have it be considered a reach rather than gamble with them being picked earlier than expected, like Ottawa did to us in the first round.

honestly the large contingent of this board that deep throated the islanders all year deserve this

you want to run an org where muh truculence and things and stuff is better than skill? then that’s what we’re doing. have fun!
