Shea Weber has joined the Philadelphia Flyers after the Nashville Predators chose not to match the mega offer sheet signed by their franchise defenseman. Weber joins the Flyers to bolster their already solid defensive strength. The Flyers have forfeited 4 first round picks in the deal but gain a perennial Norris trophy candidate entering his prime.

Shea Weber

Likely Hall of Famer Chris Pronger is expected to return to the lineup after being cleared by team doctors and specialists after suffering from concussion issues. This gives the team a huge boost to their defense after a lackluster playoffs in which they gave up a plethora of goals.

The Flyers have also made a trade with the Winnipeg Jets to accommodate the massive salary intake and shed salary. Daniel Briere was shipped to the Jets in return for winger Blake Wheeler who put of 64 points in 80 games last season. They also acquired centreman Jim Slater.

The Flyers have also signed Dwayne Roloson and Radek Dvorak to 1 year contracts at $1.6 million and $1.065 million respectively.

Senators win Presidents Trophy and get ready for a rematch with Philadelphia in round one

After a fantastic year in Ottawa in which they exceeded all
expectations, including winning the Presidents Trophy, Senators
fans are excited to see how good this team really is. Things won't
be easy though. By just squeaking into the post-season with a
record of 40-35-7, the Philadelphia Flyers believe they can do
what they did to Senators two year ago, where they eliminated
them in just 6 games despite being the underdogs. Can they do it
once again, or will Ottawa keep dominating? Only time will tell.

How did you get the pic of Weber in a Flyers jersey?
I like the trade with Winnipeg. Wheeler does quite well for me.

I just searched on google for a chance someone has shopped one and I got lucky haha. That's good to hear, I don't think I've ever had Wheeler on my team before o_O

Boston Tea Party

The superstar laden Flyers are set to square off against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. The Flyers led by Claude Giroux, Chris Pronger and newly acquired superstar Shea Weber look to start the season off with a strong start in Boston. Weber will be paired with Chris Pronger on the first defensive pairing which on paper looks to be the most feared tandem in the NHL featuring two legitimate Norris candidates. Boston is in no right a pushover as they have their own Norris trophy winner, Zdeno Chara.

The Boston Bruins are off to a good start before the All-Star break. The Keith Yandle trade that occured in the offseason that sent Boston-native star defenseman Keith Yandle, and Lauri Koprikovsy to Boston has paid dividens this season. Yandle has played great amassing 90 hits, and 18 assits with 3 goals, and Koprikovsky due to Boston's depth has been on the 4th line so hasnt been able to play on the 3rd line (Doan, Kelly, and Peverley play on the 3rd line). Rumors are swirling that the Bruins are shopping Chris Kelly to make room for Koprikovsky. Alex Semin has been incredible this season , getting 42 points in 47 games this season; while Nathan Horton has been on a tear playing with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron on the 2nd line getting 46 points in 47 games played (24 goals, and 22 assists). Tyler Seguin has replaced David Krejci in the #1 center slot this season and has setup Milan Lucic, Alex Semin, and even Zdeno Chara for a combined 36 goals this year.
[/FIELDSET]

[FIELDSET="Mid-Season Awards"]

Team Most Valuable Player:
Nathan Horton
There is no explanation needed. Horty was demoted from the 1st line to the 2nd to make room for Alexander Semin in the offseason and that surely was no bad move. Horton has gelled with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron on the 2nd line. Horton has 24 goals, 22 assists and 46 points in 47 games this season. He has been incredible.

Chris Kelly has been shopped around the league according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun. Pittsburgh, surprisingly-bad Minnesota, Los Angeles, and Tampa Bay have all shown interest in Kelly. GM Branden Cordeiro is rumored to be asking for a good prospect and a 3rd round pick for Kelly. He could be traded in the coming weeks. NHL.com's Dan Rosen's has said that the favorites for Kelly are Pittsburgh, and Minnesota.

The Bruins have gotten offers for Alex Semin by 2 Western Conference teams but Boston shut it down quick. [/FIELDSET]

I got bored with my Detroit franchise, we just kept winning.. I wish this game would give me a challenge, instead of letting my team win 50+ games EVERY season. Anyways, I started a new franchise with St. Louis.

After 5 games, I managed to organize a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, sending star center Claude Giroux over to St. Louis in exchange for center Alexander Steen, a 2015 2nd round pick, and a 2016 3rd round pick.

After 12 games, St. Louis currently sits 3rd in the league at 11-1-0.
Pittsburgh is 1st (11-2-1) followed by undefeated Detroit (11-0-0).
Last place belongs to Minnesota (1-9-2), trailing LA (3-8-1) and NYI (3-5-2).
St. Louis currently owns NYI's 2012 1st round pick (3rd overall) and Columbus' 2012 1st round pick (21st).

[/FIELDSET]

Oilers Struggle To Hold Down Playoff Spot

It is January 1st, 2014, and the Edmonton Oilers find themselves out of the playoffs. With 42 points, they are sitting in 11th in the Western Conference, despite having a star-studded lineup. The team is certainly scoring - a lot. They lead the league in goals for per game. However, they are 23rd in goals against per game. Despite being able to score at will during 5 on 5 play, the Oilers' powerplay has struggled, only operating at 16.2%.

One bright spot for the Oilers is the chemistry between Sidney Crosby and Marian Gaborik. Through 36 games Crosby has put up 40 points and Gaborik has put up 34. The top defensive pairing of Tyler Myers and Drew Doughty has been fantastic, with each earning 21 points so far and both being plus-players.

Netminder Ondrej Pavelec will have to play better if he wants to have a starting job in the playoffs.

Resignings and Free Agency 2011
article_28663_2.jpg

The Avalanche resigned Milan Hejduk to a contract that keeps him in Colorado for the next 2 seasons

It was a resigning frenzy in June after the draft as General Manager Dan Murray resigned his key players Milan Hejduk, Kyle Cumiskey and Jussi Jokinen who all had good seasons last year. A surprising thing about the resignings was of how few there were as 12 players of the roster were released to Free Agency. One of the players released, goalie Jason Bacashihua said this about being released, "I was really surprised when Dan told me I was released. I mean he was happy with me in the beginning of the season, and then he releases me at the end. Well I think he has his best interests in mind so I can't help that." GM Murray also signed some of the recently drafted rookies like first overall pick defenseman Kip Colaiacovo Who said, "I was so excited when I got the offer that I just couldn't refuse it and I am excited to play for this team in the future."

After all the resigning were finished, Murray seemed to be hinting at that he would be signing a lot of players though that wasn't the outcome. Murray only signed two players, defenseman Jay Mckee and goalie Dany Sabourin. When asked about the signings he stated, "Jay adds a little more defense and grit to our team that is lacking in it while Dany will hopefully prove to be a back-up goaltender if Peter doesn't produce." Later in July, Murray made a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Brooks Orpik who he said would only, "-add to the defense that the Avalanche are in dire need of." The signings and trades are listed below:

BREAKING: Islanders trade Boyle to Minnesota, acquire Heatley

New York Islanders have accepted Minnesota Wild's offer about defenseman Dan Boyle. Islanders traded Boyle with Mark Katic and Milan Jurcina to Minnesota for left winger Dany Heatley.

Heatley is 32-years old Canadian sniper, who has maiden 415 goals in his 880 career games. Heatley is in his last year of his contract. It's worth of 8.005M.

"Minnesota and Chuck Fletcher reached us with this offer and we accepted it after long thought", said GM Southfield about his surprise trade, "This was extremely hard trade to do. Especially when it included Katic and Jurcina, both who I liked pretty much. But you have to give to get. That's how it goes. We have now one of the best core of forwards. And we surely still have one of the best prospect group in defense. We are excited."

"Dany is one of the best pure goal-scorers in game. He has all the tools to make a good play and score goals. He now joins to group of Tavares, Grabner, Pavelski, Antropov etc, and he was excited when he heard the news. He is tremendous guy. We are seeking an extension this summer, surely", stated GM about his acquisition.

Heatley will take spot in first line alongside Tavares and Grabner as when Pavelski goes to center the third line. He has Matt Hendrciks and Jack Skille on his wing.

"Now we have little lack of defense, but we are surely looking on the market. There may be a trade coming when the deadline looms up. I want to add d", said Southfield to end the conference call.

Restarting GM Mode

I have become extremely frustrated with my current fantasy draft Be a GM. Despite having a fantastic all-star team, we can't seem to win in the playoffs. And, I'm in the mood for re-building a franchise. So, with all the offseason transactions in place, I am starting a new Be a GM as Calgary.

Flames Fire Jay Feaster, Hire Deku Scrub

The Calgary Flames have a new GM. The team put out a statement Tuesday evening. "Ever since 2004, we have not even made it close to winning a championship. We didn't like some of the moves that Jay Feaster made, and we generally just think it's time for a change. We would like to welcome Deku Scrub into the Calgary Flames organization, as the new general manager." Deku Scrub says that fans can expect "big things" in the next couple years.
