Buffalo Bills The Doldrums of the NFL Off-season have arrived

He was drafted at 320, and that’s still an outlier. We can’t just assume that Sanders can put on that much weight and hold up against NFL double teams.

I wouldn't consider Daquon an outlier in terms of his size as a 1T. 320 pounds is the 20th heaviest draft weight amongst PFF's qualifying DI. He's not a super giant like T'Vondre Sweat or something. But his size is fine for the position.

Sanders official weight is 297 (combine) and 305 (pro day), not 290.
Yeah, I'd bet his playing weight is around 300 or so. Which isn't particularly light for the position. It's pretty average. Sanders, Carter, and Ogunjobi all strike me as hybrid body types who can play a bit in both the A and B gaps in the NFL. Oliver is their lighter, more athletic guy who can even move outside some. And Jones is their heavy.

Then, next year, when Jones rides off into the sunset, they'll look to replace him as the heavy. In an ideal world, I think they'd love to get a Grant-type who also has the athleticism to get into the backfield. But as we saw this year, that's awfully tough to get where we'll likely be drafting. I wouldn't be surprised if they took a heavier guy who's more of a traditional run plugger. But probably later in the draft as more of a rotational guy, while Sanders gets the lion's share of the snaps.

Jackson is fine, and this is about the right sized investment into the edge group. But man is it tough to watch us take him while Watts and Winston are still on the board given how much their safety group struggled last year.

Feeling kind of meh about Jackson

I think my problem is I just can’t see this regime ever sinking 3 straight picks into offense even if it was warranted while we constantly pour a shitload of resources into an underwhelming DL

I'll lead with I really like our draft, but...

One thing that's interesting, analytically we were very good last year in pass rush (6th) and run stop (5th) win rates according to ESPN analytics.

We couldn't cover a cold for even a fraction of a second against KC, and the entire secondary outside of Benford graded very poorly on the season as a whole. I really thought they would look to upgrade the safeties. Hopefully Rapp stays healthy, Bishop takes that step, and Darrick Forrest doesn't suck!

Would've preferred a DE with more speed and bend, but the Bills love this kind of player and I'm confident he'll be a sturdy contributor.
Goes hand in hand with them liking lighter DTs. They like edges that can stop the run to help offset that.

Hairston should cover significantly better than Douglas did last year......and I like Tre/Dane as the #3 and #4 boundary CBs a helluva lot more than Ingram and whoever.

It does feel like our secondary hinges on Hairston and Bishop though.

When the defense fails in the playoffs again McDermott has to be fired.

Can’t keep committing so much to a side of the ball that remains the problem…and handicapping the side that works in their effort to overcome it.

Enough

Don't worry, someone will come out with a video tonight and change your mind ;)

Hairston seems like a great add to the secondary, but I do agree I wish we invested a bit more into safety this offseason. Hopefully, Bishop takes a leap. He certainly has the potential to.
