The US was stupidly penalized this time - Mathews, Gaudreau, Eichel, Jones, Trouba, Saad, Larkin - all more talented than members of this Team USA.

The young team concept is fun, had the US youth been available to Team USA and the young guns team was all-Canadian who would have been added from Canada - which <23 Canadians would have filled the vacancies?

Sayibg USA was penalized reads as excuse making to me. If they were too scared to name Kessel or Tyler Johnson than they wouldn't have brought young guns either. Maybe Eichel and Jones get brought along and Torts scratches them for the same lineup.

If they have this tourney again in like 2-3 years, wouldn't McDavid be ineligible for Team Canada still?

My personal guess is they won't have this team next time around or they will allow Canada/US to pick 1-2 under 23 players (thus preventing a situation where McDavid can't play for Canada and Matthews for USA).

As much as i agree, the biggest mistake was making Tort head coach.... Some many better options to pick than some of the players they have right now and thats on Torts, not the format.

Rest assured the next tourney will have new and improved rules

if you make it just Canada in the young team, increase the age to under 24 at least

the U-23 concept is fine, but the US and Canadian teams need to have first dibs on those players. I can understand the NHL wanting to showcase those younger players but not at the expense of the national teams.

make it U-25 and if USA wants Matthews on their team, they should be given first right of refusal.

So let's just penalize Canada for sake of parity and let's limit Canada's choice even more.

This NA team hurt America a lot more then Canada.

I can't see anyone besides McDavid making it for Canada off the NA team. Maybe the smallest possibility of ekblad but doubt it as subban isn't on the team

MacKinnon probably had a higher chance of making Team Canada due to plenty of experience on the wing.

I suggested yesterday that there should be some sort of graduation rule. Basically if you played in the tournament as a U24 once already (Eichel, Matthews, McDavid) your country gets right of first refusal at the next World Cup.

Still gives the NA team all the stars of the future, but allows players who have done it once the opportunity to represent their country if chosen.

I'm hoping for a NA vs Europe gold medal game.

100% agree, it's the best way to do it. Allow the nations to still put out their top rosters, then we won't get any of this "unfair" bs. I like the young team because it gives talented young players a taste of best on best without having to wait "through the system and pay their dues".

USA didn't even name Johnson, Ryan or Kessel, 3 of their top offensive talents to the roster, aside from Gaudreau they wouldn't have taken anyone from the NA team.

Only American skater who would make Team Canada is Kane. Not that we need him.

I disagree:
Patrick Kane (<Crosby)
Ryan Suter (>LHD)
Joe Pavelski (>Marchand/Couture/Getzlaf/Duchene/etc)
Zach Parise (>Marchand/Couture/Duchene)
Ryan McDonagh (>Muzzin/Bouwmeester)
Ben Bishop (>Crawford)
Cory Schneider (>Holtby/Crawford)

Those are seven guys that could make it onto our roster.

I like this. Keep the U-23 team for first timers.

God Holtby and Crawford are so underrated

Would take pavs and Kane I don't think Parise would of made the team after last year. We don't need to replace our multi cup winner and just got a Vezina backups

Parise is a pretty elite grinder. I know Marchand & Crosby have clicked but I think Parise-Crosby would have been an incredible duo with their boardwork. Both are incredibly strong and can hold possession due their puck protection skills.

Pavelski is a world class player and is one of the more underrated guys in the entire NHL. I agree that Holtby is an elite goalie but I've never seen Crawford as a top 10 goalie whereas I think Schneider has a case as the best goalie in the NHL behind Carey Price. My top 5 includes Price, Lundqvist, Schneider, Holtby & Luongo/Rask.

I like Parise but I don't think he would of made the team this year.

I like Schneider too but really Crawford is the only canadian goalie to win a cup so as a backup I would trust him under pressure
