Management botched it by cheaping out and not retaining/replacing the player who left, but the team was still projected to be a playoff team. People are disappointed with the Jays being a couple games under .500 while the Orioles are 15-28.

Dunno. I'm puzzled that Stefanic gets a 2nd start in 2 days. He's not a bad bench player but he's not a good fit for this team he brings the same as all the other depth guys not named Barger.
The way Barger is swinging you’ve gotta give him some chances against LH pitching.
I'm all for letting him start more often against lefties, but until he starts showing something against them I think you still want to pinch hit for him in big late spots.
Having Straw as your go-to righty off the bench is a bigger problem.

He’s just such a different hitter right now that I don’t think you can look at past results as meaning much.
It’s one of those chicken/egg things where the player won’t actually start hitting LH pitching unless you give him regular reps.

I love that Kirk got that clutch hit, again, but what pisses me off is how he can only get a single out of that. Is he slower than usual today? Looked like he was grimacing a bit, but other than that I don't know.

I can't get over how good Lukes has been since those two brutal baserunning mistakes early in the season. He's doing everything right now.

He was clearly hurting on that one. He took two normal steps out of the box, grimaced, and then broke into a jog.
As slow as he is, on a play like that he usually comes out of the box hard looking to get to second and then backs off as he rounds second.

It was an awful decision. Even at his best, Santander is more of an all-or-none hitter and Ernie is a contact guy, and all the Jays needed was a single.
That was a gritty win.
I criticized pulling Lauer after 3 but in the end full credit for how the pitching was handled. That’s two straight starts from the #5 spot where they held top teams to 1 run.

With 1 out it made sense to set up the double play but with 2 outs you walked a .190 hitter to face a .270 hitter. Crazy.

Ernie almost shattered his kneecap earlier, and now he is the hero today. Amazing.
