Yes but the first at bat there's nobody on. If the guys behind can't run them in that extra at bat they get in the 1st is useless.
Yeah, I’m not sure how the rest of the historical data plays out - whether run production changes first time through, second time through, and the overall merits.
Bo’s a fine run producer himself. I’m fine with either alignment of Bo/Vlad in the 2/3 spots. Another time or two through the league should be enough to get the on-base profile guys ready for being comfortable at the top and stretching out the lineup.

History shows 2 hitters get the most AB’s, I think.
I’m definitely down with moving Jimenez tho, but I’d slide him further down rather than up, and get Wags/Roden up top when they get settled.
Well... leadoff hitters get the most AB.

I think the idea behind the #2 and #4 spots being more important is that #3 is most likely to come up with none on and two out, which is the worst situation to come up in. The 2 and 4 spots are more likely to be run production spots.

Clement has been the better of he and Wagner so far (warming up after a putrid start with the bat and a much better defender). Barger is a candidate to take 3B away (like Wagner and Martinez) long term.
Clement is 29 though. Lukes is 30. I don't think there's much there.

People keep saying Barger (25), Roden (25), Wagner (26) must play every night. But at one point if they are to figure it out they'll have to face real MLB quality pitchers. I feel like they are all at a point where they deserve a real chance to prove it for more than 20ish games. Jays need more than Clement and Lukes at the 3rd base and LF spot. They are not good enough imo and they are at an age where they wont progress.

Leadoff men get the most ABs. Logically they have to because there's no way for a #2 hitter to get another plate appearance without the #1 getting one before him. The argument for leaving your best hitter at #2 vs leading off is instead based on a) giving that guy some information from watching the leadoff guy, and b) hopefully giving him someone on base to drive in.

This article is like 8 years old but the math should check out:

Leadoff: 4.65 PA/game
#2: 4.55
#3: 4.43
#4: 4.33
#5: 4.24
#6: 4.13
#7: 4.01
#8: 3.90
#9: 3.77

I still think Roden is the one that gives them a chance at moving the big bats down a spot (and Springer is sure making his case), but right now I think the big three at the top makes the most sense.

Well, yeah, I meant of the 2/3 spots when discussing moving Vlad/Bo down a slot.

Thanks for the link. I’ll check it out.

Wagner doesn't defend 3B well enough though. If Clement is an average hitter, he's still a decent option even if he is 29. It's up to the younger guys to take 3B from him.

Roden is a better all-around OF than Lukes. Right now, I see Roden - Varsho - Springer as the OF with Santander as a guy who can play sometimes and Straw as the 4th OF (ie late inning defensive sub and/or pinch runner). I'd rather have Barger playing 3B/OF and see if he can take the job than Lukes.

Everyone loves the Plakata!

Has to be a huge load off his shoulders.

For as much talk as there was about the contract talks being distracting, people seemed to forget he was likely feeling the heat after given now that he has to actually live up to the deal he got.

Getting that first bomb should be a welcomed relief for him and the team.
