As I alluded to in the last thread, after briefly returning to these threads last week, I decided to sit out based on the tone and general atmosphere of the GDT not being enjoyable. However, after making that post I received several comments both publicly and privately from other posters who agreed that GDTs had become difficult to participate in thanks to certain behaviors and undesirable posts.

With that in mind I spoke to the admins and have the go-head for the following:

Starting from this thread, we will be enforcing HF's rules on threadjacking and disruptive posting. Specifically:

Threadjacking/OT/Politics: Posts that waste space or time on the site, annoy users due to characteristics or repetition, disrupt the site functionality, or cause threads to veer off topic may be considered “threadjacking/OT”.

For our purposes, that is primarily going to be addressing drive-by or "tantrum" posting. What I mean is repeated, aggressive, crass, and/or disruptive posts, especially those that are sharply, possibly insultingly critical/negative of the team or players with no real interest in interacting with other posters and often divorced from the entire context of the game. If you're only showing up to angrily rant about things you dislike, especially with rapid-fire and repetitive posts, while rarely or infrequently offering neutral or positive reactions and/or not engaging with other posters in actual discussion, that's a problem. If your posting habits become predictable and repetitive to the point that posts are essentially interchangeable with one another, that's an issue.

Admittedly this will be a bit of a feel/context issue in terms of what is disruptive and what isn't. But for most people it should be relatively obvious or apparent what would cross the line. It's important to note that this IS NOT a ban on criticism of the team, management, or players. Or even repeated criticism. It's a ban on such criticism that is relayed in an over-the-top way that impacts the enjoyment of other posters. You can say that Kirk sucks during a game or that Lukes has had trouble all season. But repeatedly name-calling players as you cuss them out and belligerently insult and demean them and the team while not engaging with other posters or being willing to discuss your views is where it begins to be an issue.

For total transparency, posters who are found to be in violation of the above will face the following sanctions in escalating order, with the deletion of offending posts being standard across all levels:

First Violation: You get a notification that your posts were deleted and why. That's it. No actual sanctions.

Second Violation: You are banned from the GDT for 12 hours

Third Violation: You are banned from the GDT for 1 week and receive a 0-point warning on your record (which does not impact your account privileges in any way)

Fourth and subsequent violations: You are banned from the GDT for the remainder of its lifespan and receive a point-value warning on your record (which can add up to causing account restrictions. Read the site rules linked above for more info)

Attempting to use the discussion thread to circumvent GDT bans (ie going into the discussion thread to complain about game action becuase you are banned from the GDT) will result in being banned from there as well and receiving a point-value warning. The discussion thread is for non-game discussionof the Jays or brief discussion of non-Jays MLB or MiLB games only.

This seems harsh, but I felt that rigid, escalating, and specific responses create the least leeway or confusion over consequences. And realistically it takes until your third strike before things start seriously ramping up so it's not like you can be caught unaware when you get to the serious consequences. And if you believe you have received punishment in error or excessively you are welcome to take it up with a moderator or use the "contact us" link at the bottom of a page to send a message to the site administrators for independent review.

that about covers it. Apologies for taking so long on the front end of this thread to prattle on about the rules, but I really want the GDTs to be enjoyable for as many people as possible again and I honestly do think that the people this will significantly impact in a negative way will be extremely minimal.

With that done, Monday kicks off a 3-game set at home against the Braves, with two evening games and one afternoon one. Easton Lucas takes the mound for game 1 after being rained out in the Baltimore series, followed by Kevin Gausman and Chris Bassitt. Let's hope these can be the start of some good games for the Jays and better times in the GDTs for all involved.

It's a big series here, and the Jays need to put up some wins before the Braves turn it around, as they are better than their record says. Considering the first month was considered the hardest part of the schedule, I think we're doing awesome. Hopefully, the power comes soon, though, as the pitching has carried us so far.

Most pleasant surprises thus far….Straw and Heineman. Springer has been good, Roden and Wagner as well, Lucas has been great, but who thought Straw and Heineman would contribute as much as they have on the offensive side?
Yeah, early days, but so far I couldn't have been more wrong about Straw and Springer.

And how about Bo? The power hasn't come yet, but the overall numbers are right in line with his career (118 wRC+ this year vs. 119 for his career). But he's also wildly underperforming his expected stats - .331 wOBA vs .434 xwOBA. That's nuts. The results have been strong, but the process has been even better and he's been extremely unlucky, just hammering hard liners at fielders on a regular basis. Those are gonna start finding holes soon.

Any chance the Leaf GDT will take a similar approach?

Totally agree about Bo, so happy he's showing that 2024 was an anomaly and that he's back to being the Bo he was for most of his career. His error yesterday notwithstanding, his defence has improved and been superb thus far.
Yeah I can almost forgive Bo for not hitting for power, though I hope to get at least 10-15 dingers from him at the end of the year. He's really swinging the bat well so far.

Vlad & Tony have to mash though. And the way the bottom of the order has been getting on base this year, had they each hit a few clutch homers each, our record would have been much better.

Any chance the Leaf GDT will take a similar approach?

Probably not. I don't have any influence over Leafs GDTs since I'm an outsider that really only holds sway over Blue Jays content and this decision to be a bit more aggressive in keeping the threads readable was my own doing and not a community-wide one.

Also there is admittedly a difference in how a small niche piece of the community like the Blue Jays content can be handled vs the massive main segment of hockey discussion.

And third, this is something of a test run to see how it works.

Though today might be a bit rocky because I'm probably going to miss the first hour or so of the game.

Yeah for sure.
There’s an identity developing I think….a real team approach, all for one one for all.
Credit to the manager for that, uses all his guys in what are mostly smart spots.
Speaking of the manager, I think he's doing a better job managing the pitchers. He's giving the starters a bit more length. He also listened to all of us and is now batting Kirk lower than 5th in the batting order.
