What the hell is a "Pitcher's Pitch", Shulman referring to the strike on 3-0 count.

It was a great pitch right on the bottom outside corner of the zone. Basically it was a pitch that the batter almost certainly wouldn't be able to do anything with and would've either been a taken strike (like it was) or probably weak contact for an easy out.

Ah, i just don't think i've heard it before. Most batters will take a 3-0 pitch regardless.

Surprised to see no Barger discussion here. His 3 doubles :

109.7 mph
113.4
116.5

Only 6 guys in MLB this year have hit a ball harder than that 3rd double.

That defensive stab off Rodriguez was also crazy. You see that play-ish relatively often but it’s 90-something off the bat (like Bichette’s play later). That was 111.2. Insane reaction to make that play and to me it was more impressive than the Varsho catch later.

Breakout game for Barger. Best player on the field tonight.

It's felt like he's been on the verge of breaking out since he got called up, so it's nice to see it happen. He's been having good at bats and making all kinds of quality contact the whole time, but last night was the first time he really started to see some results.

His savant page is kinda nuts;

Simple: Man unlucky, but man still hit ball hard. Really hard.

He's a freakish athlete with crazy tools and if he can maintain what he's doing the upside is enormous.

Very few guys can hit the ball that freaking hard. The only Jay I can remember who could generate the sort of velocity/trajectory on those hits last night is Vladdy.

He's definitely tapping into that raw power now more than ever. Biggest difference I've seen from him is his confidence at the plate as he's drastically reduced his chase rate in the SSS, and is letting it rip whenever pitches are in the zone.

Defensively I always thought his natural fit would be 3B. Being a converted SS his instincts, footwork, and hands are visibly more comfortable at 3B and I just feel like he still takes awkward routes in the OF. His saving grace out there will always be his arm.

I was looking at this plate discipline numbers this morning and they're nuts. He's pouncing on everything in the zone but not chasing anything. It explains the contact quality and drop in K-rate.

They score runs, they win. Simple. The pitching is more than good enough. The focus now should be 100% on how to get more offence on a consistent basis. The AL East is weak, they have to take advantage.
