First step they could take would be to try and sacrifice some of the on field defense for pop.

You got a pile of guys who are doing shit all to contribute to the offense;

Clement: 54 OPS+
Barger: 23 OPS+
Roden: 51 OPS+
Wagner: 47 OPS+

2 of them are getting regular at bats. Send a couple of guys down and bring up somebody like Orelvis or Clase.

Do i expect either guy to be a savior? No, but shit at this point you got nothing to lose.

The real answer is this team probably isn't good enough to fix itself offensively if you want honesty though.

How do you fix it then? That's my point. There is no prospect capital to go out and make any impactful trades. How would a new GM/Pres fix it? I feel like we're f***ed. How did Mark/Ross f*** this up so badly?

First step imo really is to fire Atkins. We need a new vision.

I thought the Barnes/Lovelady over Yarbrough thing was a mistake but even then I didn't think it would turn into this big of a mistake this quickly. It's probably already cost the team at least 2 or 3 wins.

Barnes and Lovelady predictably were utter crap and both DFA'ed within weeks of the start of the season after allowing a combined 12 ER in 9 innings and directly blowing 3 games that we were winning/were tied. Moreover, our bullpen is without a bulk guy and when Scherzer predictably immediately got hurt we're now having to use up pretty much every guy every 5 days when we get a 3-4 inning start from the Urena/Lucas/Lauer crowd, and they've been overworked and are starting to struggle.

Meanwhile Yarbrough is doing what he always does and is chewing up a lot of bullpen innings for the Yankees with a 3.70 ERA. 19 innings is more than anyone on the Jays staff and would have taken a ton of weight off.

Yesterday was a textbook Yarbrough game. Starter goes 4+, Yarbrough can go 4th-5th-6th and then you can go from there. Instead they're using Green and Fluharty in the 4th and 5th innings.
The funny thing about that is Yarborough actually had a pertty good season last year. It's not like he sucked last year and was reborn this season. He was 5-2 last year with a 3.19 ERA and 1.034 WHIP ober 98.2 innings that's pretty solid. He's not getting younger but he's a good pitcher in career unlike Barnes and Lovelady. I guess it was a financial decision?

I have no idea. Apparently Barnes was on a surprisingly large salary also.

The whole thing was just such an unforced error. It made no logical sense at the time either from a roster construction standpoint (especially given Scherzer's uncertain status) or from a performance standpoint (either by career or by spring performance) and it blew up in their faces in the most predictable fashion pretty much from the very first game of the season.
