Vladdy had 1 man on, couldnt hit anything but a ground out. Could have been tied with one swing of the bat. He just isn't capable anymore.

He already made his money

The next step is 300lbs

LOL... How these contracts aren't tied to some degree of performance is beyond me... like a salesman, Base salary then bonuses for performance. I'm not talking about paying these players $500k base salary then everything is based of performance, but for something this long like ok you get base $20M and then there are bonuses at different levels.

Trying to pull a slider and rolled over on it. If he's on, he's driving that up the middle or the other way.

Because they are desperate

He was probably the only guy that would sign with them

This season is young, as we’re still in April but the Jays are a bottom five team in the two most important offensive categories : scoring runs and hitting home runs. They’re lacking bat power. They can get runners on bases but they can’t drive them home.

The starting pitchers are keeping this squad alive so far but they just can’t get run support from their hitters.

Ok, I think I figured it out from fangraphs.... Took screenshots because couldnt link the two seasons on the same page.

9 less homers, slightly higher avg, less runs, less rbi, worse WRC+ much worse offense rating, lower total war...

Oh it gets better if you start looking at it individually;

- Anders Gimenez is hitting .153 (11 hits) since April 1st. Despite this he leads the Jays in home runs

- The top 3 in the order (Bichette/Vlad/Santander) have 3 homers total in 300 at bats. Rowdy Tellez in the last series in Toronto hit as many home runs as Bo, Vlad and Santander have all season.

- Bo Bichette has not hit a home run since May of 2024 (58 games since obviously he missed most of 2024 but that's still batshit)

- Bo Bichette according to statcast has been worth 0 batting runs, -1 base running runs, and -2 fielding runs. High average but his below 700 OPS suggests a lot of that is just empty calories.

- Anthony Santander's 66 WRC+ this month is the worst of his career in March/April as an everyday player.

- The Jays 9 hits in this series ties a franchise worst mark set...last year...in Houston

There's no spinning it; this offense f***ing sucks. The fact they're on pace to put up less home runs than last year is frankly astonishing given the roster is at least better on paper.

Did Flop get 500 million to hit in Dunedin and when they’re out of contention?

That’s why they were looking for bats all winter. Not surprising this is the result when that plan failed.

Heard an amusing stat the other day, Gimenez still somehow leading the team in home runs - with 3 - and he hasn't hit one all month. Last dinger was March 31st.

Just unreal.

How did they fire the hitting coach and immediately bring in one who's even worse?

Vladdy is absolutely terrible right now. He deserves a bit of a call out. Just hitting worm burners, or useless singles if the ball goes through the infield on the ground. We need more. He can’t start hitting when the team is already out of it, like last year. We need him now. One guy can’t do it all, I am not saying that, but as a leader and as a guy who demanded 500 million dollars he needs to be better for this team to go anywhere.

At some point, it's not the hitting coaches... this is the 3rd season in a row of big offensive regression.
Yeah I was gonna say. I'm not going to defend Guillermo Martinez since his approach legitimately sucked, but Popkins has a lot of guys taking better at bats in my opinion. The results just aren't there.

The negative thought I keep coming to is 2021 making some of those players look better than they were because of playing in Buffalo.

Looking ahead, the Jays face Carrasco, who isn't good at all. Fried is a good pitcher but not an elite pitcher, and Clarke Schmidt.

I know I am going on about Barger, but he should be in there against Schmidt and Carrasco, especially with the short porch in RF.
