CBJ has a young team. This should work out well

"The Blue Jackets intend to name Mike Babcock as their new head coach once his contract with the Maple Leafs expires at the end of this month"

I think Snow's contract expires at the end of this month. I wonder what team is waiting to scoop him up?

So bettman talks expansion and keeping yotes in Arizona. How about no more expansion for at least a decade and instead of relocating the coyotes, dissolve the franchise instead.

Bettman has always been suspect, but now he's turning into a money hungry mongrel. 32 teams is perfect for where the league is right now, and it's clear that Arizona wants no part of the Coyotes. Don't even get me started on this whole Atlanta part 3 debacle.

The NHL does a terrible job marketing themselves, and they only look for short term money gains rather than long term. I get so frustrated with how he's operated these past 10 years, it's truly maddening. I know that he's the mouthpiece for the owners, whatever. The League doesn't have a good grasp on how to grow the game.

Atlanta got screwed with the Thrashers. Absolutely screwed. It wasn't the town's fault.

The fact that Atlanta lost their team in the space of a fortnight and while Arizona continues to slowly bleed out for years is just stupid.

It would kind of surprise me if Atlanta doesn't get a team again at some point. Among other things, it's the 6th largest TV market. BTW, Houston is 7th. Phoenix is 11th - possibly a reason for the NHL's patience with the Coyotes. And those 3 markets are likely growing in the future.

Another team cutting corners opting for a simulcast on radio. In this case the Kings fired the wrong guy, probably because Alex Faust made more than Nick Nickson.

I shudder when I think what will happen when Brendan Burke’s contract is up.

Brendan Burke is going to get paid, and I doubt it’ll be by MSG, Unfortunately

Yup. MSG already gave us a taste of cost-cutting this year when they didn’t send the tv crew to west coast venues, opting to have them call the games from the studio in Manhattan. The quality suffers but we still pay the same amount.

Provorov to CBJ with LA involved as a 3rd team.

I'm not seeing any reports about what CBJ gave up. They only say Provorov goes to CBJ, and LA trades Peterson and Walker to PHI and retains some of Provorov's salary.

BTW, this may slow down the Durzi speculation (with Walker being dealt by LA).

Don't laugh. Brooks (or maybe it was Staple?) posted an article saying that he thinks Snow deserves another chance at a GM job.

hey....i would not disagree with that....except for that last presser with him and Dougie....that image of two truly unprofessional individuals will always remain in my brain....and hopefully anyone considering hiring either of them.

If AA gets that contract it makes me wonder if the Isles have the cap $ to sign Engvall.

Hard to say. Looking at just points, Engvall had 30 pts, exactly 75% of Athanasiou's 40 pts. Prorating using this contract as a basis, that'd put Engvall at about 3.2m, which I think would be doable.

idk, it's a weird comparison. Athanasiou is a lot like Grabner was - a guy who will create his own chances no matter who is linemates are. But Grabner was much more valuable because of his mere presence on the PK completely altered a PP's approach. I don't think any good team would sign Athanasiou to that deal. (In 2018-2019 in Arizona, 9 of Grabner's 16 points & 6 of his 9 goals were shorthanded. That's insane. AA has 1 SHG in his career.)

The thing I don't understand about Engvall, which is one of the reasons I'm iffy about him, is why he isn't an excellent penalty killer with his natural abilities. He really ought to be. His size, reach, acceleration, and ability grab the puck and go ought to translate to a well above average PK'er.

Crazy, btw, that Butchie is tied for 5th all time in career SHG's after Gretzky, Messier, Yzerman, and Lemieux.
