maybe in a different context it would be intimidating. If I were the SA guys I'd probably be trying not to laugh
 
I believe the senior team has done it a few time as well over the years, but it adds something that they did it against South Africa, considering the two countries actively play each other in rugby and the South Africans would thus have familiarity with the haka.
 
I think it doesn't look as intimidating as it is in rugby is because the guys in rugby are much bigger.

They are also ranked #37the best national hockey team in the world, not #1.

Surprised they don't incorporate their sticks into it, seems like a natural. A bit of gesturing with the sticks would ramp it up.
