Say the Islanders are scared of drafting a kid from Ontario who grew up a Maple Leafs fan and instead they draft the hometown kid who grew up an Islander fan. Could they trade that 1st pick to San Jose for the 2nd/33/53. Could they then flip the 2nd pick in the draft to the Black Hawks for the 3rd/34/60. This would give the Islanders the

As a sharks fan, no thank you. If the sharks had pick #3 or Schaefer was a RHD, sure but he's not. Well be happy with Misa or Schaefer who ever falls to #2. The Sharks have a laundry list of LHD prospects. Dickinson, Muk, Cagnoni, Thrun, Wallenius. While they could use Schaefers top line potential, they shouldn't be giving up that draft capitol for him when they have Dickinson and Muk that could be top 4 for years to come on the left side already in the system. Especially when Misa had some nice chemistry with fellow sharks top prospect Igor. Just think of the potential of Celebrini sticking with Smith and Misa playing with Igor. The Sharks would have some nice depth

Assuming SJ takes Schaefer. If the islanders want Hagens all three teams will likely get what they want.

Hawks - Misa
isles - Hagens
SJ - Schaefer

To be honest I think the smart play for NYI is just taking Schaefer. But I totally understand the dynamic with wanting the local kid who won’t pull a Tavares someday.

Watch MG interviews. MG had said from the start he doesn't see a clear #1 like celebrini last year. He's said he plans to take best available and won't draft on positional need so i doubt he gives up value to move up if hes not drafting based on need and said he doesnt see a clear #1. He's also said that he might move later picks to supplement the current roster as in young players or rfas (think askarov trade). Too much from what he said screams he will take the best player at 2 if he doesnt move down instead to gain even more draft capitol to improve the team
