That said, one thing before I head downstairs to play PS5 and get my head out of this atrocity.

The fans said this is a new era. Harris is owning the team now. Show up. We did our part. We purchase season tickets, we sell FedEx out. And they're 1-4 at home.

This is a new era post snyder. No more distractions, no more lawsuits. This team just focuses on football.

Yet the defense got MUCH worse and the offense is inconsistent.

Ron had a chance in years past because of so much he had to deal with, he couldn't focus on just football. Now that excuse is done. This was supposed to be a distraction and drama free year. Yet the team has looked much worse than they have in any of Ron's previous years, and those years were a 8-8-1 team, a 7-9 ass team, and another mediocre team I can't remember the record. This team is WORSE without distractions.

EVeryone is done at the end of this season. After Week 18 they gonna try to get back in on Monday and their key cards won't work. They're all gone. Clean f***ing house. But at the end of the year. If you fire them now, nobody in their right mind would want to come here knowing they could be fired after 10 games. Harris and company are not Snyder. They are patient. They will fire him, don't get me wrong. He'll step down. He's done here. But it's not happening until the end of the year.

Yes much much wiser to keep trotting out the two dotards the rest of the season.

Tell us more oh sage wizard of the sporting world. /eyeroll
why would you want a coach that tries right now?

Get those draft picks, then get somebody in fresh. Worst thing you could do right now is basically tied between bringing in new coaches that win and keep you out of good draft slots (but also likely still out of the playoffs), and bringing in new coaches who also don't have answers (or are even told to tank) and get the perceived stink on them in the room that nothing really changed with the players they're meant to be building with in the future.

Or you just hire stopgaps but... why? Might as well let Del Rio accidentally do way better for your draft position than somebody trying to prove they can do the job.

This is actually kinda wild.

that's f***ing nuts.

what? I mean... well first of all, that's actually maybe okay play calling, offense did their job.

But maaaaaaaaan does that mean Del Rio's just sitting there drooling into his mic

I can see this all playing out very Redskinny…..they’ll suck, but pass on a future HOFer QB….after all these years, I’m not suddenly sweating a middle 1st round pick if they started winning.

This is shit. On Fire. Doused with kerosene. And nuclear waste. Ron is terrible. Del Rio is worse. I was pro-wait 'til end of season, but it's a disservice to the players who do care and who we will keep to make them labor under this ass-baggery any longer.

I still don't understand the purpose of firing everyone right now. This team has nothing to play for except draft picks. Just lose baby.

This was never going to be the year. I have no idea why any Commanders fan had hope for this year aside from us all being systematically deprived of watching an actual professional football team for 24 years to the point where we as a fan base don't even know what that looks like.

The O-line is getting destroyed. Watch San Fran's O-line. Most of us seem to have forgotten what an O-line is supposed to look like.

That said, there are some real positives:

Dan Snyder is gone. This is amazing.
Sam Howell might be an NFL-caliber QB. Doing what he is doing is impressive. Doing it behind THAT O-line as a first year starter is perhaps excellent.
The team has some draft picks.
Did I mention Dan Snyder is gone?

There's no benefit to firing anyone now.

He hasn't lost the players which is the most important. The players still believe in Ron and haven't tuned him out yet.

One of them said "if we fire him then what? the same people would still be coaching offense and defense"

JDR is most likely to go immediately but the problem was always who they would replace him with. They don't see anyone in the building right now who can do that.

I just want to fast forward to the end of this season and see them all escorted out. But let's be honest. It's too late to fire anyone now. If they wanted to do it, they should have done it earlier. There are like 4 games left in the year.

The offseason is really going to set the tone for the future. You have nearly 90m in cap space to blow, a new owner who will have his first offseason where he can actually make an impact, and a likely new front office and coach who share his vision. This season is a dumpster fire, we should be rid of it asap

He hasn’t lost the players…just ask them. lol…wtf is that bum Leno gonna say?

He also didn’t appear to get JDR would also be out on his ass when asked about the coaching change possibility.

Wanting these lame ducks gone tomorrow doesn’t mean anyone thought this was the year or anyone had some mad hope for this team…nope…appreciate Snyder is gone, still would like to move more in the right direction sooner rather than later.

Oddly enough, I imagine this is how those who wanted Lavi gone midseason last year felt….The Commodes just don’t have the same injury issues tanking the season for me to throw my hands up and say F it.

I have no idea what anyone thinks firing RR and co. would accomplish at this point. This season was always a lame duck year where the priorities were:

1) Is Howell the guy? (probably, at least for next year)
2) Is EB the guy? (probably not)

10) what do we do with Chase and Sweat? (more picks baby!)

So, let’s just lose out, get the best pick possible (while hopefully not getting Howell killed).

Just imagine if we were in striking distance of Marvin Harrison Jr. (unlikely, I know). Or a franchise LT in Fashanu. Or a beast of a TE in Brock Bowers. Or top DE Laiatu Latu.

If there is a run on QBs early, a lot of this talent could be there around 5. If we pick a little later, Joe Alt (T) or Rome Odunze (WR) could be great options.

Yards are nice but you win by scoring more points than the other team. They put up 10 points so they didn’t do their job IMO.

To me, Howell has shown enough behind a patchwork, train-wreck of an O-line (a vestigial hardy perennial of Lil Danny’s reign) to earn a chance behind an O-line constructed with a modicum of intelligence, care, and cohesion.

The D instantly improves just by jettisoning JDR and RR. So our asset deployment (picks and cap space) should be conducted with O-line strengthening as the priority. As we’ve seen time and again, chasing after the latest shiny QB toy is almost futile without a line to protect him.

The 49er OL makes Brock Purdy look really good - it’s amazing how much better a QB’s “reads” and “accuracy” are when he’s not worried about the pocket cratering 1 second after the ball is snapped.

I get that too many times Sam looks like he holds the ball too long and that he did that in college so maybe this is a (major) thing with him. But he seems to have gotten better at a lot of stuff this year, and he might actually have gotten better at that, but there’s no way of knowing behind this line

Rapoport reporting that JDR is fired. Good riddance. Now at least see what we have personnel-wise with anyone but JDR.

Rapoport reporting that JDR is fired. Good riddance. Now at least see what we have personnel-wise with anyone but JDR.

A day after the Washington Commanders’ defense gave up 431 yards and 45 points in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Coach Ron Rivera fired defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and defensive backs coach Brent Vieselmeyer. Rivera will call the defense for the remaining six games of the season, according to two people with knowledge of the change.

Washington has lost its last three games and is winless against its divisional opponents so far this season. Its defense has been responsible for many of the team’s struggles, despite the expectation in the offseason that the group could build on a successful 2022 season in which it finished third in the NFL in yards allowed. The Commanders added rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. to a versatile group of defensive backs and retained a defensive line stocked with first-round talent — which it dismantled at the trade deadline last month.
