hmmm....I cannot put Daneyko above Maclean. and Parise deserves to be on the list somewhere.

Here was some of the discussion around the 5th and 6th place votes fwiw - I can understand Daneyko over MacLean from an overall standpoint (contributions, championships, attitude/leadership). Skill wise there isn't a question there obviously.

Parise, Gomez, and Broten were all guys on the cusp of cracking the top 20

All time, in no particular order:

Marty Brodeur
Scott Stevens
Scott Niedermayer
Patrik Elias
Ken Daneyko

HM: John MacLean, Kirk Muller

Current team, in no particular order:

Jaromir Jagr
Andy Greene
Cory Schneider
Mike Cammalleri
Adam Henrique

HM: Damon Severson

Dano accomplished more as a Devil and was a lifer but Mac was a better player.

Kirk Muller was a darn good player for us too.
Being the pick after Mario wasn't easy the first few years.

Its not even arguable. Marty is the best player in njd history

no order

All-Time:
Brodeur
Kovalchuk
Parise
Elias
Stevens (even if I wasn`t a Devils fan back then; became a Devils fan like 4-5 years ago)

Current
Henrique
Cammalleri
Gelinas
Severson
Greene/Larsson
Josefson
and...
Jagr (last season > this season)

Probably not contributing much new to this thread with my picks (not ordered...EDIT: ok the first list pretty much is in order but Elias/Niedermayer may be flipped):

All-Time:

Brodeur
Stevens
Niedermayer
Elias
Daneyko/MacLean

Cheating on the last one - the former if looking at overall package and the latter if just skill. For the record, Dano's number absolutely belongs where it is in the rafters.

Present

Henrique
Severson
Schneider
Cammalleri
Greene

Eh way too small a sample size for the "present" list which really just reflects the 10 games so far. I do have high hopes for all those players though going forward but would like to see Elias, Larsson, Josefson etc. either return to form or make big strides this season.

All time
Brodeur
Stevens
Niedermayer
Elias
Kovalchuk/Mogilny

I think it's too early for ranking the current players on the team.

I just don't see how any Devils forward other than Elias gets on this list over MacLean. I suppose there's a pretty good argument for Holik, but Kovalchuk, Mogilny, Parise, Muller aren't close to leapfrogging MacLean in my book.

I guess it depends on how you factor in longevity and pure talent and skill in "top player". I went with skill since Kovalchuk and Mogilny are probably two of the most skilled players to ever wear a Devils jersey. However, MacLean has obviously done a lot more for this team than either Kovalchuk and Mogilny.

If we're talking the most skilled players ever to play on the Devils, then Peter Stastny has to be on the list over either of Kovalchuk or Mogilny, along with Fetisov and Jagr.

It'd be something like:

Brodeur
Stevens
Fetisov
Jagr
Stastny

Kovalchuk and Mogilny both still don't make it.

I did that poll...

I remember specifically saying that it's not about who was the best player, it's who contributed the most to the organization in their time here. Daneyko over MacLean is understandable because Daneyko was so vital to the Devils for the first twenty years of the franchise.

I think that list is pretty accurate. Parise might be somewhere on that list now, since that was the summer he left so there was a notable amount of bad blood there.

In that list Bruce Driver is incredibly underrated.

And Brylin and Daneyko are way overrated.

See above for the last sentence. I remember pushing for Driver after Muller I think it was, I was lobbying for him until he eventually was voted in. In general, I think that list is pretty solid.
