Frank Seravalli says that John Gibson will not play another game for the Anaheim Ducks. If they move him, potential landing spot for Murray for 1 year?

They are asking for a huuuuge return for a goaltender that has struggled even be part of average starting goaltenders.

I dunno how his value will get any better. He he had a GAA of 3.99 and a sub .900% save percentage this past year... and he's signed until 2028 at over 6M. The one thing you can say about Gibson is that he's durable.

But if they get it sorted, they do have a ton of cap space.

What was it then?
O'Reilly might be outspoken but he likes his own bubble too. At the end of the day though...it was always the money. We could've offered the same and we did but tax does play a part. I said it at the start of it, I was very excited for him probably the most I've ever been for a trade but he was always a mercenary for hire.

Off topic since it doesn't really matter anymore, but there was a notion ROR left because he didn't like Keefe's coaching, however Mirtle was on with JD on his podcast and he looked into it, and said it wasn't true. Keefe wasn't the reason ROR left.
ROR left because he always takes the most money possible. It’s what he has done his whole career.
While we probably could have matched the number he signed for or at least came close we couldn’t offer the zero state tax element.

Seravelli said he was not interested in playing in Toronto this morning (14:30). Wouldn't let the Leafs make an offer.

Seravelli is an idiot. Many other insiders were reporting that both sides had been negotiating they just couldn’t come together on a deal

The time to bring in John Gibson has passed. Last year he snubbed Toronto like he was some all-star too good for this market and then proceeded to play through a tank season and Anaheim. And now he's had enough? He can go back to Anaheim and waste his remaining prime seasons on a rebuilder for all I care. His head is not in the game.

I think we will be ok. BT is bringing in Toews for 2 x $1.5 million and we will get the same benefits from ROR.

Yeah I remember his agent came out and specified Toronto when he said Gibson had no interest in leaving Anaheim. So yeah, f*** him and the horse he rode in on.

Why are fans souring on Timmins? Showed enough puck-moving smarts last season while returning from a serious injury. 24, RHD, has played 12 playoff games, and having his first healthy off-season where he can live in the gym and rebuild his body.

There might not appear to be a spot for him at the moment, but at 1.1 million and full of upside, why shouldn't he be a part of the mix? Maybe he's in for Klingberg by the end of the year...

I personally quite like him was a player. I just see him as one potentially that Tre may want to move, especially if he wants to further shake up the D core.

Yeah there was a time I would have had some interest in Gibson but that ship has sailed. He hasn’t been good in years and even if that is a product of the team he plays for he publicly rejected us without much provocation.

There is potential there but he needs to play to live up to it. If he isn’t going to get playing time here that cap space would be better used elsewhere

He's 33rd out of 42 goalies with 100+ NHL games over the last 4 years for save % with a 0.902 save %, or 16th out of 18 if you make it 150+ games.

I wouldn't take him for free even if they retained some capspace. He has 4 years left at 6.4M, and hasn't even played like a quality backup, let alone a starter.

I get that his stats have likely taken a hit due to the team he's on, but good goalies can still put up half-decent stats on bad teams (eg Ulmark in Buffalo). Gibson's stats are so bad that even if you assume a bump of like 10 points from 0.902 to 0.912 due to the team, that still has him at just averageish starter level. Simply not worth the risk.
