Bargain bin diving isn't gonna really help for what Bertuzzi can provide. Sometimes you have to give term to secure a player. Can't always just tip toe around it.

Comtois is a sub-10 goal scorer and hoping he can output more than that seems really optimistic. I'm sure he could do better but as good as Bertuzzi? No way.
So was Bunting.

The issue is that signing Bertuzzi facilitates a Nylander move and that is going to be a very hard thing to get right IMO.

I am not seeing that, and considering he already signed in the SHL, I highly doubt it.

Marlies signing who has NHL experience if injuries pile up like they did last year. Even though he was one of those injuries
Yup, familiar with the player.
I don’t mind a few vets around to help with the pro game and improve competition in the A.
Was just checking Rifai’s term and noticed it.

Starting to get my hopes up regarding Bertuzzi and Domi.

Really hope it works out somehow. They’re exactly what this team needs.

But Treliving will have to get creative with this defense. I think we could get to the conference finals if Sammy holds up, but I can’t see us winning a cup with how the D is currently constructed.

Rather than commit the term to sign him.

Take a chance on Comtois instead or see if you can get Marchment back on the cheap from Dallas.
Marchment was terrible for Dallas last year despite getting first and second line minutes an PP time.

Why would the Leafs want to pay his 4.5 mil salary for 11 goals?

I mean he is going to get it from someone....so you either give it to him or lose the player and the team keeps the current holes. It is comparable to the Hyman deal.

I'm not a cap expert so I don't understand the magnitude 5 mil per season will be under the new cap.

I think 7 years is just too much though as that will take him to 35 years old and he has had injury history also.

I think the player fits our lineup well but he very well could end up with a horrible contract if it is 7 years.

Must be nice? Bunting is massively overpaid. Orlov is overpaid but at least that one's short term. Them adding an overpaid Karlsson to not play defence would be hilarious.
yea another trip to at least the conference finals is hillarious...I wish we were so funny

Still believe you see the Leafs sign both Bertuzzi and Domi. Both are on hold until the Nylander trade, once the trade is done, I believe you will see both signings.
Im listening.....

Wish I had your confidence, wish we could get both those players! id be pretty pumped! I think we end up with none though :( but they have not signed so there is a chance lol

the only credible reporter IMO in Toronto who doesn't take sides and reports things as is and never shills

however his tweet excites and scares me

Doesn't take sides yet he posts totally misleading numbers. Those 79 goals aren't 79 goals scored for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2022-23. That number includes goals scored for other teams before those players were acquired by the Leafs.

Lost to free agency (goals):
Bunting (23)
Kerfoot (10)
Holl (2)
ZAR (10)
O'Reilly (4)

Acciari (4)
Gustafsson (0)
Benn (1)
Hollowell (0)
Mete (0)
Simmonds (0)
Schenn (1)
Zohorna (1)
Kral (0)

Total: 56 goals

Feeling as scared as by that tweet?

Every one of those above players will have their ice time replaced by another flesh and blood profession athlete wherever on the depth chart. They have not been replaced by just Ryan Reaves and John Klingberg and their collective 15 goals.
I bolded the players who were team regulars while with the club. Some did replace other departed regulars: Engvall - 12 goals (Acciari), Sandin - 4 goals (McCabe) so I'll be generous and change the total to 72 even though those players did not leave through free agency.

Counting the contributions of 7 post trade deadline regulars then comparing that to the contributions of 2 initial free agent signings is wholly disingenuous and just a scare tweet. Who are the other 5 players replacing these 72 - 15 = 57 goals? We don't know yet. We've literally got to come up with 5 players who average about 11 goals each. A distribution of 20, 15, 10, 7, 5 would make up that number.

I'm fine with moving Nylander. Is it too much to ask that they never acquire a Lewis Gross/Michael Greedlander client again?
I am convinced that's why TB moved on from Colton and one of the reasons Dubas said goodbye to Sandin. People forget how Sandin threatened to sit out because of money and a path to play. Not worth the headache.

They are not adding $2 million of dead cap for the 2024/25 season
I think we should Trade Murray to the Thunder Bay kings triple A affiliate for a few packs of Persions from the persian man, and a couple dozen coney dogs from the Mckellar confectionary, and a player to be named later.... lol, on a serious note I hope someone will take him! lol, I mean maybe he will still be here when Camp opens healthy and ready lol

Knies-Matthews-Nylander
Bertuzzi-Tavares-Marner
Domi-Kampf-Jarnkrok
Reaves-Holmberg-Lafferty

I can live with that
I like the flexibility with the roster, let’s say Robertson gets his way into the lineup:

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Nylander
Robertson - Tavares - Marner
Knies - Domi - Jarnkrok
Lafferty/Holmberg - Kampf - Lafferty

It is projected to go up by just over 10 million in the next two seasons and be north of 100 million in 3 years. There is of course the chance that years 6 and 7 are rough....but we are square in the middle of a contention window. I don't think you can worry about it right now honestly.

Yup. Scary.

Now subtract 40 more if they deal Nylander, and hilariously some say that will help make up the deficit referred to in this tweet.

Ummmm, guys....the loss of Nylander's 40 goals need to be factored in too.

If you can sign Bertuzzi at 7 years 5 per who says no? I think that is a reasonable deal that ages alright with the cap raising going forward.

I don’t like the term but if the cap goes to $100M in 4 years, you will have Berruzzi at $5M for 3 more years which is the equivalent of a $3.75M last year. If he is a consistent 50 point scorer, then it’s a very good contract. But still some risk.

I always thought he was a power forward who hits. He had the same amount of hits as Kerfoot last year.

In the end you have no one locked up past 3 years except for Rielly, term really shouldn’t bother this team.

Ya that's fair.
We do have to win very soon and if the cap is going up considerably than maybe it's something you have to do,
I would much prefer it to be 5 years but you're right someone will pay him for 7 years.
Also hard to give a 100% strong opinion when it's unsure what's happening with Nylander.
