True. May be Tre can meet with him and say...

"Listen Matt, we have 2 options. you can go on LTIR and get your full pay or we buy you out. your call"

"Do you want the full $8 million in one year and do no work, or do you want half of it over 2 years while doing no work." Up to you.

If we don’t get Bertuzzi at this point I’m going to be extremely disappointed.

Domi is whatever to me, but Bertuzzi is a potential core player.

Nylander trade coming and Murray buy out.

Buyout window has already passed, I think there is one more window that you can do a buyout but it comes with conditions. I think Tre already said Murray will not be getting a buyout.

And that's one of this team's many mistakes.

Woll is good to go, and his cap hit is only a luxury if you're not overpaying other goalies

He didn’t say that. They may be trying to include Murray as part of a Nylander trade.

I would do 5 years at 5 million per without blinking for Bertuzzi. He is 28. But in fairness he has been injury prone.

Ya there's a big difference with north of 5 and it's 6-6.5 vs say 5-5.5

I'd be cool with 5 years in the 5-5.5 range but anything more should look elsewhere.

If the Leafs are still in the mix for Bertuzzi and Domi, they must have a trade lined up.

They probably do, I really can't see Tre keeping Murray.

That said, depending on what they think Sammy signs for They could potentially sign Domi without one depending on what he's asking

I thought the goaltending contracts actually helped our case with Samsonov.

I projected 2 years at 3.75M but it could easily get down to 3M, or maybe 3.5

I remember him saying they weren't going to buy anyone out in the first window, but noted there is a 2nd window.

The 2nd window is triggered an arbitration filing, so if Samsonov files for arbitration, they would have another chance to buy Murray out if they can't find a trade.

If they have a better idea of next season's cap by then, they could buy Murray out during that window.

Signing both Reaves and Kampf together really handcuffs the bottom six.

It basically indicates that they are opting for a defensive 3rd line again because whatever line Kampf is on is the shutdown line by default due to his black hole offense. You also cannot have Reaves on a shutdown line, nor can you have him on a 3rd line playing >10 minutes a night. You can deduce that this is the bottom six plan:

xxxxx - Kampf - Jarnkrok
Reaves - xxxxx - Lafferty

The alternative is having Kampf and Reaves together on the 4th line, completely negating Kampf's defensive impact, which they clearly value since they gave him a 10m contract.

For that reason, even if they are looking at Domi, it's for LW depth and not centre. We've seen this bottom six model before and it doesn't get the job done.

This is Lou Lam draining the prospect pool making 18 selections which is 4 more then the standard 14 (7rounds X 2 drafts)

With Matthews, Liljegren and Woll all expected to key parts on Treliving team going forward.
Good thing Matthews didn't turn out to be Alexander Daigle or else these two drafts would look pretty bleak.
I'd walk away from him even at $4m. There's a reason Washington let him go unqualified.

Woll provides better goaltending at a fraction of the cost
Not a good enough reason since WASH missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years.

Woll has a lot of potential but has yet to prove he a legit NHL #2, never mind a starter. And there are still injury concerns with him.

Domi is a risk because he has worn out his welcome everywhere he's been. One year would be preferable to two.
what about if he's bought out?
I think they'd rather avoid a $2m dead cap hit for 24-25..

No, not with another addition or two on the defence.
There are no decent FA defensmen left on the market. The only way they can pick up a top 4 guy is to make a trade and that tradable asset is Nylander. They have about $6M left in cap once you include the LTIR of Muzzin. Murray is gone too so that could free up another $4.6M giving them about $10.5M in cap space allowing them to sign both Domi and Bertuzzi.

It's too bad Alexander Semin isn't still in the league. Treliving should go after a player like that huh?

No, what a random player to pick out.

I just don't think they provide that much help and the term of those contracts will come back to bite whomever signs them.

Plus, there's a few off ice issues as well.

Dumba is out there still, but hard to imagine him fitting in our cap

That's a lot of words to say he lost the net
Quite telling that given the opportunity for Murray to go back into the net in the playoffs, and they chose Woll instead for the backup duties, forget about getting a sniff as the Starter,..,.

……. But then I look at the poster I’d be replying to and life is too short to waste it like that. :)

I wish the Leafs had taken a chance on Daniel Sprong. Would have given me a reason to tune in and would have been a goal scoring thread on the third line. But he was signed by the Red Wings.
I liked him as an option to spread the scoring around.
Ah well. On to the next

Ya does anyone know how much money the Leafs have to work with for this years team? Thanks. Estimate is fine :)
It’s kinda hard to say. There is flexibility. But do they buy out Murray, trade him or LTIR him?
Do they trade Brodie?
What happens with Nylander?
What does it cost to resign Samsonov?

Your best bet is to go to capfriendly and play around with the armchair GM feature yourself. Right now we are listed at a little over 6m in cap with Muzzin on LTIR but without a full roster
