I wonder how much Blackwell really wants to be here?

Both Keefe and Dubas stated they've tried to get him a couple of times in FA.

Go look at what kind of money he's been paid in his career. It wasn't about that. He simply chose to be somewhere else.

I'm glad he's here. His legs move fast and he'll hit and dig.

Both are solid pickups.. Gio a potential gsme setter that keeps the D core honest. Blackwell a player similar to Kerfoot who can probably get a taste of play on different lines and roles.

Both played engaged and responsible games.

Well, that's the thing I guess. When you're vying with all the teams to get a guy it's all about the best pitch (from the team, the city etc etc). Bringing in Blackwell now, having him play 20 games in the uniform, hopefully go on a run in the playoff, then you pitch him a contract extension which seems like it should definitely give us the inside track; get his interest.

I would think however if he's played just as a 4th line guy, he could move on in hopes of more opportunity elsewhere. I think sooner or later, he needs to get a long look on that 2nd line.

Not exactly the same, but Dubas did try to get Kampf before, and he chose to come here. Blackwell looked solid and his skating is a welcome addition to the bottom 6.

I thought that look would come tonight. Not like we had much going offensively. I think now it's an easier sell putting the new guy up on Line 2 over someone who's been grinding all season.

Not sure if it's because his legs are shorter, but they really move fast. Look much faster than most everyone on the ice.

I wish when the media get answers like this they'd follow with... How's the comfort level with some of the other guys like Holl, Lily, etc? It's implied in the comment that some of our guys don't know how to play and he doesn't have great comfort level with them.

That isn't implied at all. Saying someone has poise does not mean others don't.

Although I wasn't initially thrilled at the idea of acquiring Gio (not really a fan of acquiring oldies), it looks like this could be a good fit at a very economical price. This team certainly looks like they're more adept now (or the potential to be) at playoff style hockey.
