Speculation: Nemec not happy with the Devils?

Nemec’s development has be abnormal for lack of a better phrase. Year one post draft in Europe, year 2 he was in Utica and then played a huge piece of the season due to Hamilton’s injury, and then this year, he had a rocky start for multiple reasons and Kovacevic came out of nowhere. He really has had a strange path. He needs consistency and time to develop into a defenseman in the North American game and the AHL is the place to do that.

I can see a shake up coming and he gets some time up in New Jersey this season, but I truly think he plays next year and the Devils let Kovacevic walk.

If the Devils move on from him, he should be packaged with Mercer and a pick to go after an elite forward such as Brady Tkachuk if he ends up being available. That’s just an example, but something of that nature.
Just correction, he did not play in Europe post his draft, he immediatelly moved to Utica.

NJD have few options in the summer, but the ideal solution for them would be to trade away Hamilton and Palat. Extend Kovacevic, and Hughes of course. Nemec would replace Hamilton and they would get a lot of cap space to attract some help in offense (3C, scoring winger...).

Would love Nemec on the Preds.

I wonder if the Devils would be interested in ROR for 3 playoff runs, he should be a solid vet center to have in the middle-six. Obviously also add in some picks and/or prospects from the Preds side.
I think ROR at 50% + TBL / VGK 1st could be an attractive offer depending their perception of ROR decline, Their view of Casey s potential and their leverage vis a vis Nemec.

A healthy Casey should come up first if we're doing it based on merit.

No chance, you're letting your Casey bias and Nemec hate show, just stop. Nemec was struggling early season after the injury like they always do, but has been red hot as of late. He has the experience, draft pedigree and defensive game over Casey.

Your reaction to this interview is just ridiculous. Nemec is a bit awkward in interviews (especially if this was in english), he never brought it up and said he's not gonna ask for a trade. But yet you guys just have to try and twist it into something negative. Europeans in general like to say it how it is and what comes to their mind and not do a phony generic answers and press statements that are no use for anyone.

I wouldn't trade Nemec unless it's for a big unrealistic piece like Caufield. I think he's gonna be a stud. But I'm not so sure about Fitz though, as he's shown to let prospects and young players go for nothing in the past and seems to be thinking more about the present than the future.

Edit: and for those not following Nemec, he already showed glimpses of great future last year. Didn't look anything like himself early this season after the injury, but is finally getting back to form now. He has 11pts in his last 10gp and 8pts in his last 5gp.

Casey is significantly better defensively, it's not even remotely close. Nemec was also terrible down the stretch last year as well, so I don't think you can blame his poor play exclusively on injury. He needs to learn how to stop making terrible reads up ice.

The fact that he's thinking about asking for a trade if he doesn't get what he wants because of his draft position shows a level of entitlement that is incongruent with the type of winning culture we should be building.

How's it an indictment that he didn't beat out 3 top 4 quality RHDs as a 20 year old? Simon Edvinsson and Brandt Clarke didn't lock down a starting role until this season (They're D+4 seasons). Bouchard didn't lock down a starting spot until his D+4 season and Dobson didn't break out past a bottom pairing role until his D+4 season. Nemec had a quality rookie season playing 20 minutes a game just last year as a 19 year old, he's still got plenty of time to solidify himself in the league.
How many #2OA picks did 3 years in the jungle?

That's not the way you answer that question. It's a really crappy, selfish response that puts the GM and coaching staff on the spot. This, after reports of him pouting after being sent down. You don't see this from Casey.

He has nobody to blame but himself for being in the AHL. He was hot ****ing garbage on the devils this year.

This is an absolutely unacceptable level of entitlement. I think the Devils should actively be shopping him, don't need this sort of attitude in the organization.

Huge mistake taking him over Cooley.

Confirmed.

Nemec a bust.

Habs 2 x 1st rounders seeing Devils don’t have one this year, they can use those for trade bait

No way.

50 points isn't exactly lighting it up for a 2nd year 1OA. Cooley's on pace for 71 this year while Slafkovsky has struggled to build on last year.

Cooley had 44.

-Cooley has keller on his wing and has played in a better team than Slaffy.
-Slaffy hasnt played enough consistent minutes with Suzi + Caufield
-Big guys take longer to develop. You always take a good big guy over a good small guy.

Slaffy has been fine, and when its all said and done will have a better career than Cooley. Although, Cooley is a fine player and is on track to be a #1 Center.

Nemec knew exactly what he was saying. It would be silly to think his own countrymen media will not act as a messenger for him to help his cause when they have no stake in the NHL and full stake in him. It probably was even pre-coordinated by his agent or him. Let's not pretend it's just "open European native interview" and he was only answering a question. That's the way it works if you are invested into.

His attitude has been spotty from the whole getgo this season. He got injured precamp, played like dogshit and got outplayed by a 7th defenseman (although the 7th defenseman is playing more like a 1st or 2nd pairing guy somehow, so some bad luck for Nemec but he was still outplayed)

He has been playing great in the AHL as of recent, but it didn't start out that way. So either his injury healed, or he got his head outta the sulk mode, or he got a talk from his agent and was told the only way out of this is to play hard so other teams can look at you as a possible trade piece, or lucrative to NJD again. Maybe all of the above.

He may even want to stay with NJ but is just throwing the stone out there from his friendly country media to relay a message to his bosses indirectly.

I liked him last year, but at same time, don't want to deal with an entitled kid if that is the case.

This is not how you do this. Be a professional, don't air it out in public. Why on earth would the devils take out Kovacevic for Nemec? It's nonsense.

No, it's seen as selfish. The team is trying to win a cup,

Casey is better and, by all reports, has a much better attitude
You just want him gone because you are worried he will affect Casey's playing time at some future date.

Lol, you get these obsessions with certain players and cannot be objective.
100% agree

Get what you are saying but he's been like that since he was drafted...Telling team he wanted to be in NHL....He has picked up his game a lot lately and sometimes you need a dose of reality to know that something like playing in the NHL shouldn't be taken for granted...I think he was still recovering from his injury over the summer and trying to be too offensive minded and letting his defensive play slip....He is worth more than people think would only trade him for a similar aged top forward prospect

Not worried about Casey at all. Let him cook, he's patient and has a great attitude, he'll find a spot once we move Hamilton.

I don't believe Nemec will beat Casey out for a spot anyway. Moving Nemec makes sense because of his attitude, poor defensive play, and the fact that he's likely blocked from playing RD behind Casey long term. He would probably also return the most in a trade, given his draft pedigree.

This 100%. Hopefully he turns the attitude around, he's got a lot of potential if he puts in the work.
