Hypothetical you are on the clock with Nemec/Jiricek available and Dallas offers their first (18th) + your pick of Stankoven or Bourque, Are you tempted? does that open the negotiation door? What needs to be added assuming Johnston is off the table.

To stars fans I get those 2 are insane but this is us trading from new found strength to find a long term Miro partner that puts him at LD is worth it

Interesting idea. I personally think they would shoot for maybe someone in the 2021 draft class or sooner. I think their window is a little tricky to determine but if the goal is to maximize everything you can get out of Heiskanen you're probably hoping for a sooner turnaround.

I personally think they'll both be gone top 5, so you're looking at one of Arizona, Seattle or Philly. I also think there's a significant drop-off after the top 5 in this draft (Wright, Slaf, Cooley, Nemec, Jiricek), 18th IMO has dramatically less value.

Stankoven and Bourque both had great seasons, but they're both undersized - Stankoven especially is tiny. There will be lots of very justified concerns about their ability to translate to the next level. To actually get one of Arizona/Seattle/Philly to pull the trigger in real life, I think you'd be looking at a major "plus" on top of 18th and one of Stankoven/Bourque, like also adding your 2023 1st.

Alternately, I think Wyatt Johnston could get pick 3-5 pick straight-up, 1:1, but can easily see Dallas not being into that.

Nemec will go at least 4th overall and Jiricek 6th overall.

The Difference between the 18th overall pick and one of Stankoven or Bourque isn't the difference of moving up either 12 or 14 spots.

Man I'm really behind on prospects across the league becuase I have no idea who any of the prospects are in this thread. The ones the stars are offering or the two guys they want

Barely kept up with this draft so don't know anyone outside of Wright and Savoie

Or …. How about Ottenger and 18th for pick 2 ….

Thus won’t go over well for me (Devils fan ) that really really likes Ottenger
No. just no. I would not trade Oettinger for the #2 straight up. You don’t trade a young goalie with his talent and what he has shown. You build around Oettinger.

To be fair you dont trade young goalies because they are so tough to project and their value in trades is generally low

I don’t think his value is low after that first round. He had a good year as well.

18+ prospect( recent late 1st/early 2nd) does not get you into the top 10.

buffalo would beat your offer easily with 16+ one of their prospects.

4 for Dellendrea + Stankoven + 18? Hopefully draft Chesley at 18 to get the RD you are passing up at 4. Probably an overpay by Dallas but I don't see Seattle budging on 18 + Stankoven alone. Seattle farm would greatly improve with this move and Dellandrea should be ready for a top 9 spot next season. Chesley probably doesn't come close to Nemec or Jiricek but if he becomes a good top 4 D I think it's a win win.

You have to offer somerhing the team moving down covets. Not something you easily give up. If it doesn"t hurt the value isn't there.

Yeah, recently picked prosepect that was chosen the player of the the year in WHL is something ”you easily give up”
ty smith (drafted #17 in 2018) is a two time whl defender of the year. he had a strong rookie season 20/21. dallas can have him. what's your offer?

Stankoven won WHL player of the year in his D+1 and Bourque was over 2 PPG this year (Only 31 games due to injuries). These are not players Dallas easily gives up, hell I go as far as to say the average Stars fan would consider both as not available for trade. The only reason I would give one up would be for a long term Heiskanen partner.

I get Stankoven is a "recent 2nd rounder" but that was in a covid draft where just about all the prospects didnt play for the year so the draft was likely going to be all over the place. Hindsight he is 100% a first round talent and would have gone much earlier if there was a full WHL season in his D-1 season.

I understand the guys im targeting are expected to be draft quite high, which is why I figured one of stank/bourque + a first would be a reasonable way to start the conversation. These arent nobody prospects, these are the 2 guys with the highest PPG in the WHL and Q

ty smith (drafted #17 in 2018) is a two time whl defender of the year. he had a strong rookie season 20/21. dallas can have him. what's your offer?
The purpose of this was to get a RHD with high upside to pair up with Miro so Miro can go back to his strong side. Smith doesnt really fit that mould

Other stars fans might disagree with me but I would be stupidly tempted by this

Very relevant👏🏼
so in case of the dallas player individual award in the whl is relevant. in case of the devils player it isn't.

i don't say these are bad prospects, but they are far off to upgrade the dallas pick from #18 to probably at least #6.
