Just read that Pionk said the Jets should be embarrassed about not making the playoffs with the talent the Jets have and he's embarrassed by his own play this season. Good to hear and i hope all our veterans feel the same.
Very refreshing comments from Pionk considering all of the entitled BS responses and excuses we have heard from the "leadership group" over the past year.

I like Pionk. Strikes me as a straight shooter. Yes he has had an off year but good for him for stepping up with an honest assessment of his play and the Jets year.

Hope the Jets keep him if there is any sort of re-build this off-season. I think he'll bounce back next year and I think his effort level is one othe more consistent on the team. Maybe not a core leader going forward but a good soldier who is probably good in the room too.

I think Pionk just had a bad year, a year where just nothing was going to go right no matter what he did. He's still a 40 point a year player overall for his career and though it isn't the best analytic stat he is +4 in a season where we have many players who are a minus. I think with a different coach and better systems in place and IMO a Samberg as his D partner who will be defensively responsible and cover for those times Pionk loses his mind that we will see next season something closer to the Pionk of 2019-2020.

To defend Pionk here a bit: watch how Pionk pivots off his right ankle. He can't turn.

He's played all year with an undisclosed injury to his right ankle/leg/foot I guarantee it.

I forget the game, but on a recent one they did show a clip of that and his turning and pivoting looked painful.

His number 1 job next year is to try to become the player he was before he got paid, another season from him like this years performance and the NYR fans might of been right about him and the Jets should move on from him. Good for him for actually saying what many of us have seem from him and the club this year.
Other than him being more aggressive physically in his contract year (which was not sustainable given his lack of size/strength), I don't think his play is that different. I never saw the hype that many here did and thought that contract was brutal from the moment it was signed. He's a smaller less-skilled version of Myers, with similar defensive brainfarts and the same tendency to hold on to the puck too long in transition instead of making a simple pass. I'd be happy if he proved me wrong next year though.

I'm glad to hear he's embarrassed by the year they had though. I wish the "leaders" of the team felt the same way.

Agreed. His game in 19-20 was a bit overrated imo. He got a shit ton of pp points, which is nice ofc, but I don't think his presence made the pp better as a whole. , IIRC he was one of the most pp reliant scorers for dmen that year, and still struggled defensively.

Has a V strong year last season next to Forbort, so higher expectation this year with Dillon as his partner and a new contract. He might be hurt, idk. We'll find out soon I guess.

Perhaps he bounces back to last year. But according to the underlying stats, last season was more of the outlier in his career

trade him!
People around here are so fixated on getting rid of so many players because it’ll be addition by subtraction the Jets would be at best contending for the Calder cup in the AHL next season.
