Somewhere
I figured I post this here since I'm not really sure where it needs to go.

Anyways, The tournament is coming up in about a month and I was wondering what kind of equipment I should be using.

I'll be playing goalie so should I be using ice hockey equipment or ball hockey equipment? Should I be aiming at maximum coverage or more lightweight equipment and rely more on my reflexes?

*I obviously have my preferences but I'm just trying to get a feel for what most other goalkeepers are doing.

I've played goal for the last 3 years at the tournament in St. John's and most goaltenders in Adult and U19 divisions will use ice hockey gear. Below that, ball hockey stuff from Canadian Tire seems to be more the norm.

I used smaller lightweight gear because I play a more athletic style to cut down angles and use speed. Most guys just wear huge gear to cover the whole net and then can't move. Usually before the game I can overhear the other team talking about how small I am and it should be easy to score... then the game starts and they find out they were wrong.

I played in Winnipeg a couple of weeks ago.

I wore my regular ice c/a, mask and gloves, but player pants and Canadian Tire Reebok road hockey pads. It was a good mix for being mobile and staying cool, yet being protected.

You'll get a huge number of shots from all kinds of crazy angles, so being mobile is vital.

Hmm.. I''ll be playing in St.John's next month, maybe we'll meet up and not even realise it. I'll keep my eyes out for a guy wearing smallish equipment ;)

Awesome, but my team ended up losing a couple of players so I'm moving to an out position since we found another goaltender. In the off chance I do end up in net, I'll have a Cooper SK2000 helmet with a Hasek cage on it. Gotta love the old school gear!

What division is your team entering?

I'll be in the Elite division. Will be wearing a set of Reeboks, similar to the Rbk premiere 3's, with an ice hockey blocker and glove and a generic black TPS mask.

Ill be entering the tournament for the 5th straight year. Personally I try to cover up as much of my body as possible while trying to be lightweight. I play in all-star an some guys can shoot hard so I wear my hockey pants (player not goalie) and a small chest protector I bought at Canadian Tire, it doesn't cover shoulders or arms. Glove, blocker an helmet are just road hockey gear you can get at Walmart or Canadian tire. For pads I have ice hockey pads, they aren't big, I went with something smaller. The reason I did this was I found myself buying a new set road hockey pads every year at $120 so I went and bought a pair of ice hockey pads or $250. So far I have gotten to years out of them so my money's worth and they are still in good shape. Only issue I have with them is that it takes away from mobility a tiny bit but I like them and probably will go with another pair of ice hockey pads when I need a new pair.

Mobility is important for me and I'm not sure I could handle all that gear with the heat.

Nice, good luck with it!

I think my team will be in Adult Contenders (intermediate) this year. The 3 guys we had who could actually score goals can't make it, so we're playing with a bit more of a "blue-collar" team by the looks of it. Our goal is to make the playoffs out of Saturday and survive George Street later that night.

Newfy IceCapd, I believe it starts around 8am or so and runs all day until 6 or 7pm. It's definitely worth going down for a look around, you never know who you'll run into. I've met IceCaps, NHLers and more CBC personalities than I knew existed. All in all, it's a great weekend!
