Yeah, if you could swap one of Randle / Barrett / Brunson with a Luka / Tatum / Zion, this team could make some real noise...hopefully someone in that tier asks out in the near future lol.
Knicks are cursed. It won't happen.

Probably not, but at least this FO is putting us in position to make a play if one does...all of our own picks + 4 protected FRPs, with Randle (28) & Brunson (26) being the only players in the rotation over 24yo on the team currently in 6th. We have the ammo to bring someone like Anunoby in & still be in the mix if a top tier #1 option asked out...I'll take that.

Watching heat laker game. My default position is to root against the lakers but then I looked at the standings. It’s going to be close but hopefully Knicks can keep their playoff spot.

Knicks regularly doing dumb things in the last minute of a game is why you can't bet point spreads.

Clyde needs to find a word that rhymes with "Inexplicable"

This is not an “NHL is better than NBA” comment as I use to be a huge NBA fan (prob up until 2017)…but am I the only one who feels the NBA just seems weird now? It just seems there is less hype around it these days..I believe viewership is down as will..Even with I guess more parity something seems off. I would put some of it on LeBron’s team not being dominant as years past and being the center of attention for all these years.

I don’t know…

NBA viewership is close to pre-pandemic #s. There was a bit of a dip after the warriors dynasty pulled away from everyone and LeBron left for LA, but that was a crazy time.

The parity has changed the league though. With us & Sacramento getting our shit together there aren't many hopelessly dumb teams to take advantage of; while between the flattened lottery odds & the play-in, there's less tanking than before, meaning contenders can't load up the way they could 5+ years ago so those heavyweights are more flawed when they go toe-to-toe in the playoffs.

But I'm thoroughly enjoying it. The East hasn't been this good & competitive since the 90s.

The Knicks really need a star and a better coach, but for all their inconsistency I like this team a lot.

We'll (most likely) need an upgrade eventually, but thibs has really been the least of our problems. We don't have the talent to win without a strong defense and he's been good with our kids.

Definitely need to upgrade one or two of Brunson / Barrett / Randle to a Tatum / Luka / Zion caliber #1 to ever contend, but we've got the draft capital to buy someone like Anunoby and do that if one of those top 10 guys asks out.

Why is anunoby worth 3 1sts?

Why is anunoby worth 3 1sts?

To us or in general?

To us, I think it depends on the picks. I don't think he's worth 3 unprotected FRPs, but 1 unprotected FRP + those 3 protected FRPs we got for our pick last spring? We can afford to pay that and still make a play for a top 10-15 guy if/when one asks out.

In general, he's worth that much because he's one of the best 3&D guys in the league as an above-average 3pt shooter and an exceptional defender on the perimeter. That's why Phoenix offered 2 unprotected FRPs & Cam Johnson...who is a really good 3&D guy in his own right.

And if Masai prefers extra picks to CJ, I'd happily give up a top 4 protected 2023 FRP + the Detroit SRPs we have left to snag him. Something like this seems like a great fit for all sides if the Raps decided to tank out the rest of the year, but I'm not the GM lol:

NYK in:
Cam Johnson + Jae Crowder

PHX in:
OG Anunoby + Fred VanVleet

TOR in:
Dario Saric + Landry Shamet + Derrick Rose
'23/24 PHX FRP
'25/26 PHX FRP
'27/28 PHX FRP
higher of '23 NYK/DAL FRP
DET SRP (x2)

Thanks. I saw a tweet saying 3 1sts for OG was being considered by the Knicks. I just don't see it but it'd make my nephew happy.

It helps that the Knicks are +4 on FRPs so the FO can afford to "overpay" for someone like OG, if Masai will take our protected FRPs.

idk if anyone else at HF cares about this, but it's a big deal to me. I'm picking them to go to the league semis.
Does Dolan own the Liberty too? Embarrassing the WNBA team can get a big three on their team before the Knicks can.

Still don't see the Knicks winning a thing with this core. Likely a 1st round exit kind of team, with ability to make it to the 2nd if things go right. That's about it.

They should trade Randle in the offseason. Figure out another plan.

They're a young team that's developing, but are running into a wall because of how their bench is used. Mitch missing a ton of time with injury hasn't helped either, but I don't think the overall makeup of the team is bad. It's obviously missing a superstar talent, but there really isn't a way for them to get one just yet. Figure out a way to get useful minutes out of the bench, see where that gets you, and go from there.
