The Habs needed a center and could have kept the 13oa pick acquired by trading Romanov, and with that Nazar if they had waited, instead of trading for Dach.

Which of these players looks to have more potential in the long run?

I’ll take the one that’s 6’4. I like both players though

Dach was great till he hurt his wrist playing for the juniors. Could it be that it still isn't right, or was he simply brought down by the mess that is Chicago?

Dach needs to get better for this trade to make sense. Gambling on potential, much like the Hurricanes with KK.

As for Nazar...

I dont get why the Hawks have given up on a guy they took 3rd overall 2 years ago

As for whos better or will be better, its a toss-up

Not a bad move by MTL

Nazar will be a better player, the only question is how soon and does that line up with the teams window for improvement. IMO both these teams are near the bottom next year so Nazar would be the better option for either.

At age 21 and with 150+ NHL games under his belt, Dach is a fourth line winger on a team contending for the cup.

I don't know the first thing about Frank Nazar, but I'd be extremely disappointed if the center I drafted at 13th OA was headed into his Draft+4 year at the stage Dach is at currently.

It was still wrapped for all of last season.

If it can heal and no longer be a detriment to him, I'd say it will be a great trade for the Habs.

If it doesn't, the Hawks made the right choice in moving him for a top 15 pick.

Seems kind of unfair.

You hope whomever you pick makes the NHL. Nazar was drafted 24 hours ago, so he has 0 NHL games.

Would be an interesting look in 5 years.

We had a lengthy discussion a couple days ago on HF Jackets about trading pick #12 for Dach. Nazar was the player most were focused on drafting there, and the more popular opinion was that Nazar > Dach. And I fully agree with that.

I mean currently, yes Dach is a more solid bet. He is in the NHL. But Nazar's upside is a lot higher. Dach doesn't have the sense to be a top scoring forward.
