Congrats to the local professional rugby club who made the playoffs for the first time, and beat defending champion Rugby New York.

Their next game is against New England, who had a bye this week and easily finished top of the Eastern Conference.

US Pro Rugby ….. that’s a thing? I had no idea, and I follow sports pretty earnestly.

Geez
I wouldn't blame you. MLR is still very niche although attendance is growing. They've only started to advertise radio spots on 106.7 but before this year OG was largely irrelevant. They came around in 2019 and then a pandemic, then they moved to Segra Field in Leesburg. Last year was really tough for them as they started on a 10 game winless streak, fired the only coach they ever had, and limped to a poor record. Hired a new coach this year, improved defensively, went 7-8-1 and beat #2 seed Rugby NY in NY to advance to the Eastern Conference finals.

I will say though that all the pro rugby games in the US are available legally online (the rugby network) and the local DC ones just air on NBC Washington or Fox Sports 2. So it's very easy to watch at least if you have cable

Wow, thanks for the info. I live in the SF Bay Area, so local broadcasting wouldn’t hit me.

That said, I’ve never heard anything about a local Rugby team here either. But maybe there is and they are quiet about.

I will say that Kezar Stadium in SF has hosted many a rugby match over the years, but mostly US national team games against the Aussies or the All Blacks…not from a pro league.

How many teams are in the entire league?

I've seen a few matches. Good quality play. Although some of the rules these days are different than when I played (the line outs in particular).

Honestly feels kinda dumb if the Pirates didn't take Skenes. And I would agree see the movement that he has and control AND seemingly no effort delivery seems like a no brainer. Whomever they take its a great one two prospects for this draft.

Lets go LSU. The Nats are getting either the top arm or bat. Pitchers getting tommy john is pretty scary but this kid can throw.

The headline directly contradicts the article, which states LIV may still fold.

Here's another article on the details of the agreement so far:

Basically the only thing set in stone is they're abandoning all litigation. After that it's a whole lotta maybe.

I'll say there's a almost 0% chance that, if the agreement goes through, LIV runs concurrently with the PGA Tour season. If it survives, it'll be a fall series circuit.

Hmm….interesting idea….but no way that works for the other golfers…unless they can simply play both….plus, there’s enough consumer demand to run them concurrently….

I suspect the “LIV guys” will eventually get pulled back into the PGA Tour designated event schedule, majors, plus whatever the LIV schedule looks like.

This will all get worked out now because the other players will get their $ also.

I’m more interested to see if the PGA Tour revolt led by Patrick Cantley will eventually see Jay Monahan ousted….

LIV guys will be able to re-join the Tour with some penalties -- at least that's my understanding.

My best guess is, as a show of good faith to the PIF, they keep LIV in name and structure as a qualifying path into designated events and to test the team aspect. Then they gradually remove/shift the branding.

I think the only way the team thing moves forward long term is if it's closer to Formula 1, and the OEMs have teams. Team Titleist vs. Team Callaway is potentially compelling. Nobody gives a shit about the Cleeks vs. the Fireballs.

Because LIV was the prized baby of Al-Rumayyan…..I think it survives and near term, there will be a blended schedule. And yeah…with the relegation Idea…..could be some fun inter-tour swapping of players…..but that won’t impact US viewers much….imagine the relegated LIV guys get sent to DP or Korn Ferry, whatever they decide…

There will be teams in the new TGL (Fenway Sports Group just bought the Boston Team), and they are not named for one sponsor only. Doing that makes little business sense from my perspective. we’ll see….

The PGA Tour policy board met in Detroit on Tuesday. Player directors sitting on the board -- Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnatiand Webb Simpson -- were assured by tour management that they will have to approve a final agreement between the former rivals.

The framework agreement doesn't specify what will happen to the LIV Golf League, which is being financed by PIF. According to the framework agreement, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN on Monday, the "NewCo will undertake a full and empirical data-driven evaluation of LIV and its prospects and potential and will make a good faith assessment of the benefits of team golf in general, and PIF, the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour will work together in an effort to determine how to best integrate team golf into PGA Tour and DP World Tour events going forward."

"Everything over the last couple of years that we've been told by Greg and everybody on LIV has come to fruition, so we have a lot of confidence in what they have been saying to us," Mickelson said. "We don't really feel the need to publicly posture our position. There's really no need for us to talk about things publicly but to just let it play out."

The framework agreement also included language about how players who were suspended by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour for competing in LIV Golf League events could reapply for membership to those circuits. Under terms of the framework agreement, the tours "will work cooperatively and in good faith to establish a fair and objective process for any players who desire to reapply for membership with the PGA Tour or the DP World Tour following the completion of the 2023 season and for determining fair criteria and terms of readmission consistent with each Tour's disciplinary policies."

Mickelson, who won 45 times on the PGA Tour, was asked about the possibility of returning to that tour.

"Rather than saying yes or no, I know that from a player experience, all of the difficulties and challenges and things that take a lot of excessive energy and output throughout the week have been fixed at LIV," Mickelson said. "So the player experience here is incredible. I just can't envision a better scenario for me as a player than playing out here on LIV."

LOL Phil still making his sales pitch. It's out of his hands now.

I don't see the LIV format as a moneymaker long-term if the same stars they lured away are off playing on a competing tour. Which means the LIV events will have to be worked into the PGA Tour schedule. I'm thinking 1-4 events a year in the LIV format/presentation, or something, as part of the PGA Tour schedule with a parallel regular tour event on the side that allows the fringe guys and Monday qualifiers their chance to get a W, similar to the old WGC schedule.
