It was a joke, but presumably if Washington knew what they had with Forsberg at the time, they wouldn't have done it.
when it happened, I was mad that it was forsberg and not wilson going. Would have been so much worse. they dont win the cup without wilson in 18.

The Washington Capitals look at this deal and pass, probably countering with something not including Lapierre or requesting that Nashville adds

And in an ironic turn of events, the Capitals win the Stanley Cup over the Jets ;)
underrated comment

I'm assuming the OP is a Caps fan, and this proposal is coming from the Caps, not from Nashville. Barry Trotz would pass first, therefore. I doubt he would even bother to make a counter, he would make it clear that the Caps won't be able to meet his (likely ridiculous) asking price on O'Reilly.

The only alternative to this scenario would be if O'Reilly first asked to be traded. Then you could get him for just a 3rd round pick because Trotz's priority would shift to trying to find the best team to give O'Reilly an opportunity to win a Cup with as opposed to getting the best return for the Preds. :sarcasm:

You would most likely be correct. The caps don’t really have weaknesses but the third line very much could use an upgrade offensively. There is debate as to whether the caps should trade some of their many assets not yet in the nhl (because they have a lot to be excited about in the pipeline) or stand pat and not mess with the chemistry this team has. There are people with both stances.

That aside the caps could use a depth LHD because there’s not much on the left side after Alexeyev (Iorio and Bear are both RHD, as things stand you probably have to slide TVR over if something happens.)
