Absolutely shocked- I will be VERY interested to hear Trotz comment on this and what the thinking is.

One thought I immediately have- if we are really going the burn it to the ground mode, why keep Saros???
I saw on NHL rumors that Nashville might trade with the Rangers. Since the two goalies were Alex Lyon and No Save Dave, I laughed. Neither of those two could start in Milwaukee, let alone Nashville.

You wonderful fans saw Rittich play in person. I saw plenty of Lyon with the Wolves. Cooley is better than Lyon! That is a fact.

Duchene: 'For me Dallas checked a lot of boxes'

Apparently Duchene was blindsided. Interesting that he emphasized how awesome of a person Johansen is.
I mean you think about it they have pretty much tore all of the friendship circle type thing down. Ellis gone, Arvy gone, Ekholm gone, Jarnkrok gone, RyJo gone, Duchene gone. Really only guys left are Josi and Forsberg.

The other thing I was thinking about regarding Duchene this morning is how for so long it seemed impossible to attract top FA to Nashville. Yet here was a guy who actually wanted to come to us and I remember where I was when we all heard the news that he signed with us. He performed pretty well over the last couple of seasons, under a coach that I think most of us agree wasn’t great, and yet here we are.

No real point here. Just something I’m trying to process as I actually really like Duchene.

I came to like Duchene but unfortunately for all involved the timing of that signing was awful. I’ve often wondered what an alternate timeline where we just traded for him instead of Turris would have went.

Who knows ... but if a 2nd line of Fiala, Duchene, Smith had been better than the Turris line and had kept its foot on the gas all season right into the playoffs ... I mean we were already a Presidents' Trophy team as it was.

So we (Preds) will pay Duchene around $19M not to play for us and could have payed him $24M to play for us. To save $5M? I know it is not my money but that just doesn’t seem like a very smart move! Sure he had 1 terrible season but otherwise has played well for us. At least I thought he did. I liked the hiring of BT but will hold out judgement for a while till his plan comes more into play.

It wasn't about saving money, the owners have just shown you that with the UFA's Trotz brought in. Trotz wanted winners on his team, guys that do things the way he thinks they should be done.

I think Duchene has won 1 playoff round his entire career across 4 teams. You do the math.

$16M, not $19M, so saving $8M.

But again, it simply wasn't about money. Or goals. It was 100% culture.

I think Trotz has made his plan 100% crystal clear. He has left nothing much open to speculation pretty much since Day 1.

Of course, now we have to see how it all comes together on the ice! And a lot of that is now up to Andrew Brunette. The players are set. The plan is set. But will it actually work in execution?

Trotz didn't want him around the kids.
Yeah don't know why it's hard for people to grasp. He wanted Joey and Duchene off the team. He found someone to take Joey for half price, he couldn't get anyone to bite on Duchene because of the 3rd year so he bought him out.

It wasn't about saving money, opening spots, or being more competitive, it was simply he wanted to build a better culture for the kids to develop.

He wasn't worried about the structure of the cap hits or anything else, he just wanted them out the door.

Could have been term, but I think the crunch was the M-NTC that would've kicked in yesterday. If he wasn't bought out, that would've kicked in and made it harder for GMBT to trade him. It would've made it harder for any GM, which is likely why nobody wanted to pick him up on that contract on a Joey discount.

Nice guy. Loves Nashville. Scores goals. But exactly no one wanted to give him the leverage of a M-NTC for $4Mx3.

PS: This is just what happens when there is a new sheriff in the GM seat. We've never gone through it before, but a new GM will want to put his fingerprints on things. Coaches and players are jettisoned. New coaches and players are brought in.

Because Trotz faught to get guys like Radulov, Jere Karilhati and both Kostitsyns on the roster. Surely Duchene isn’t in their league of locker room cancers
