OT: Mysteries and Urban Legends of the World

So, with the Coronavirus keeping us all cooped up here, I was wondering if we could have a fun discussion and/or sharing of various oddities about the world. Whether or not you think they are true or not, or have any explanation, doesn't really matter. Just post things you find interesting and mysterious about our world and events that occurred in it.

I, for one, have always found the idea of mass disappearances pretty creepy. There have been recorded occurrences of this happening such as the famous Roanoke Island incident:

Just the idea of people suddenly up and having to leave without explanation has always made me feel uneasy. There are also unsubstantiated ones such as Anjikuni Lake:
