Lol and some Vancouver fans probably still think they might get Nylander for Tanev

Surely this won't happen but more because of the expansion than anything else. Tanev is a Top4 Righty and those kind of players are usually worth a lot. Remember NJ got Hall for Larsson recently.

Larsson is a lot better than Tanev.

Oilers overpaid.

Doesn't mean Toronto is going to.

Absolutely. Through blue/yellow glasses...maybe also through blue/white ones.

Otherwise? Not so much:laugh:

Fourth place in tournament scoring, twice as much points as his closest teammate on the champions, while only being on ice for one goal against and dominating possession. Yeah, must be bias at play there.

Edit: Apparently fourth place, my bad.

Nylander - 4th in scoring, T-1st in goals, T-10th in assists, 4th in faceoffs, 1st in +/-.

There were ZERO other Swedes in the top 15 for pts. Russia had 4.

I remember when people thought Nylander was the best non-Canadian player in his 1st WJC tournament a couple of years ago. It made me mad seeing so many (mostly leafs fans) thinking that he was genuinely one of the tournaments best players. Which was probably based more off his point totals than anything else, because he really wasn't that good. His brother's WJC tournament performances so far have been way more impressive. Though i would have liked to have seen more of William in 2016, but unfortunately he was being targeted in the 1st game by the opposing team and ended up being injured.

Beside all of this, Nylander definitely deserves MVP for his tournament this year. He and Backstrom was carrying Swedens offense big time in the decisive games. Also felt like Nylander was a gamebreaker against Canada yesterday. Even though Sweden ended up having many shoots, i rarely felt like they had any serious scoring chances. Even though you didn't always notice Nylander in the game, as soon as you did notice him, he always did something good or attempted to create something offensively. I felt like Canada couldn't really get a hold of him. He could go through 1-2-3 players and being close to making that decisive play, or burying the puck in the net. If the game wouldn't have gone to a shootout, he was probably Swedens best bet to being involved in the GW goal in some way.

You can tell that he has matured a lot, not only as a player, but also as a person. I never doubted that it would happen at some point, because he was always a great talent. But i might not have expected him to mature as soon as he did. He just turned 21. Toronto and Babcock have done a great job with him. I also noticed him plenty of times in the tournament backchecking pretty hard when there were 2on1s and such. You probably never would have seen that before. If he ever did something like that before, the only reason would have been so that he could get the puck back to himself sooner. Now it was more a matter of him trying to prevent a scoring chance from the opponent so that he could help his team to win. He has also become significantly tougher physically. He is definitey not soft.

It has been a joy watching him this tournament.

Out of the super rookie crop this year Nylander was the only one to win rookie of the month twice.

it was very similar tournament for Nylander as Laine had one year ago.. well we must consider Laine just turned 18 when he did all that.

Congrats to Nylander. Wanted to see MacKinnon win, he probably would have if Canada wins that shootout. Thought he outplayed Willie in the gold medal game, but Team Sweden prevailed over my Canadians so the point is moot.
