Anyone object to 8@3M AAV?

I think Muzz at 3M for 8 years would be a steal, if he continues to play like he had the 2nd half of this past season. Lombardi's obviously taking bit of a risk, locking him up for 8 years, but I feel like it's a medium risk, with high reward. Muzz on the other hand, probably could get lot more money after signing a bridge contract, but hey, the guy gets to play with the best franchise in the league, with one of the best dman in the league. Besides, they seem to really enjoy each other's company.

Thoughts???

I don't think he'd sign at such a length for that dollar figure, but a $3M AAV for Muzzin would be a steal, that is if he continues to trend upwards in his development. Still think he has potential to be far better and we saw glimpses of that in the playoffs.

He'd probably get close to or just about Voynov/Jack Johnson type money if he signs long term.

If he wants VV or JJ's type of money, then obviously, it will have to be shorter term (4 or 5 years). I like the idea of locking him up longer at a smaller cap hit.

I'd do it in a heartbeat, but there is no chance of that happening unless Muzzin's agent is drunk or high

Depends on the cap next year, I would imagine. Muzzin will be looking to get some security (more years).

Damn Muzzin was good in the playoff's, just nails.

Yep. I could see a 3x3 bridge deal, but that would take him to UFA status.
Muzzin would only have 1 year of RFA status on his next contract. You're looking at 4+ million for his UFA years. Voynov got 5+ million for each of the 2 UFA years he gave up.

DL likes playing the long game to try and keep ahead of the salary cap increases.

I'll go with 6 years, 28MM ($4.67MM AAV)

RFA (1 yr) - $3.5M
UFA (5 yrs) - $4.5, $4.5, $5.0, $5.0, $5.5

For some reason I thought he had 2 RFA years left after the current deal, that sounds about right.

Pretty sure they can talk extension with Muzz this season. Although they may wait till the season is over to see how Muzzin performs.

I think something like 3 years with a cap hit of $2.75M to $3M would be a fair deal for both sides.

That would make Muzzin a UFA when the contract expires and allows both sides to see how he progresses and to re-assess his value at that time.
