Dermott made a mistake, but he was good otherwise. Crap happens and unfortunately it really cost him at the worst possible time but you can't say Dermott has played poorly at the other times. It could have happened to anyone. Same with Galchenyuk.

The reason why Sandin gets criticism is because he made countless mistakes that did not cost him and then made a bunch more that went into the back of the net. And he did practically nothing positive to counterbalance it. It would be the same with Thornton.
Honestly they're both as terrifying for me. Sandin has more upside, but Dermott is more physical. If we're down Muzzin it makes sense to use Dermott for PK purposes

If he hasn’t been ruled out maybe that means it’s not as serious as originally thought?

Some positive news at least. Even he doesn’t play game 7 maybe he’ll be available at some point in the 2nd round if we make it

Cal me crazy, but I'm putting in Hutton over Sandin or Lliljegren.
Didn't we get him for such a reason?
It being the Leafs, we'll no doubt get word that Marancin will be in.
Ahhh Marincin.....forgot all about him....watch him score the game winner. No way we see Sandin in game 7 lol

He might also play after the needle sire. That's how they do in major league sports milord.

there's an element of "when you know you know" with the human body but sometimes that instinct is wrong but I think there is value to it.

And Muzzin had a "f*** this I'm out" vibe which would suggest it's serious enough to not be back right away. But sometimes it feels worse than it actually is.

If we lose tomorrow do we keep muzzin?

This would be the 2nd time he got hurt in the playoffs.

I'd we retool maybe we consider moving him in addition to marner
old warriors with battle scars can only do what their bodies can tolerate, seems wise to expect more of the same going forward........

haha, I don't like it either, but what's the alternative? If Muzzin is a no go, I think you have to play Sandin like 7-8 minutes tonight with PP1/PP2 minutes and double shift the others. When your #2-3 defenceman is down and he's being replaced by a defensively challenged rookie with a good shot and good offensive instincts, you probably just have to go for it. Heck, when you've got three elite forwards, you should probably go for it!! The Leafs have to double down tonight on their offensive talent to carry them through the next round. If I'm Keefe, I'm telling the team to pepper as many shots at Price as possible. Avoid the extra pass once you've passed the blueline and just pepper those shots.

If they lose, they lose. But I'd want the Buds to go down tonight because Carey Price made 51 saves in a 5-4 Habs victory than half as many saves in squeezing out a 1-0 win. Give me 10+ shot attempts each from Matthews, Marner, and Nylander tonight I'll accept whatever the outcome is. I don't care if half of these get blocked, regression to the mean will show that at least 7 or 8 of these will be high danger shots and that even an elite goalie like Price will let in 2 or 3 of them. The fancy extra passes (especially on the PP1) haven't been working, so why reinforce the definition of insanity?

This is a huge loss but I don't give a shit about making excuses for this pathetic core. Losing this series would a colossal choke, Muzzin or no Muzzin. Every team has injuries.

TBL won the f***in Stanley Cup without Stamkos. You're telling me we can't beat the f***in Montreal Canadiens in round 1, who had a losing record this season?

Honestly if management uses injuries as an excuse they should all be fired.

I'm thinking the same, one short-term thing I'd be worried about though is if they dress him but he ends up not being able to play and then they're left with 5D for the rest of them game; it's a tough call.

Good point. Put me down with the other6s calling for dressing 7 D then. Thornton should sit. Not gonna happen but one can dream.

Agreed, but they'll say something like "we're not using injuries as an excuse but .... and then they'll proceed to say something passive aggressive like "losing our captain and a defenseman like Muzz bla bla blah" .... "The rest of the guys had to pick up the slack and things spiralled blah blah blah"

I can hear the excuses already

Comes down to the possibility of more damage vs pain management.

If he has to play through the pain with no chance of further damage, I say he plays for sure.

But if there is a decent chance he can do more damage, no way he plays... that would be dumb.

If he is not playing... our chances to win definitely take a hit.

Excuses are just that.
Facts are out a $11 million dollar centre weakens this team substantually.

Whatever TB did good for them. We aren't built to substain an injury to our top 3 forwards.

Hmmmm Depth a D in the playoffs ... Interesting Concept !

I said all year that the team needed more NHL Caliber D men .... I like Foligno .. but those assets should have been used to acquire more d men .
