I think most Oiler fans recognize they need a top six LW, a 3C and an upgrade in goal (Koskinen). A 3-4 LHD would also be a great addition but are proving hard to get.

:edmonton

Linus Ullmark (G) pending UFA

:sabres

Mikko Koskinen (G)
2022 2nd round pick

As unbelievable as it may sound Koskinen would get to submit a 15 team no trade list and Buffalo would have to not be on it. Top dollars, term and a M-NTC. Just chew on that for a minute.

:edmonton

Ryan Getzlaf pending UFA

:ducks

2023 2nd round pick
Alex Chiasson

Purely a rental for the playoffs Getzlaf would be an ideal addition as a 3C in Edmonton. Getzlaf would have to waive. Chiasson is included for cap purposes to balance things out just until the end of the season. He is then a UFA. Getzlaf then returns to Anaheim for one more year and retires a Duck.

:edmonton

Erik Gustafsson (LHD) (50% retained) pending UFA

:flyers

Ethan Bear (RHD)

Nice addition to the 2nd pairing for the Oilers, Gustafsson can also play the right side depending on the situation.

This next one is the hardest.

:edmonton

Johnny Gaudreau (LW, one more year left at $6.75 Million)

:flames

Kyle Turris (cap dump)
Kris Russell (cap purposes)
2021 1st
2022 1st
Tyler Benson (B Prospect, tearing it up in the minors)

We are not trading Gaudreau to the Oilers. Get real.

If we did it would severely hurt your team, like Holloway and Broberg.

Personally I still think Gaudreau signs a long term deal in Calgary

So, you want to sell out a bunch of premier draft picks for a drunken shot at success in the playoffs this year?

LOL, go for it. Probably will still get clowned by the Jets in Round 1.

Seems like gambling at a bunch of minor upgrades (except JG)

Is Getzlaf even healthy?
Why Gustafsson? Who is just a PP specialist. You must hate Bear.
JG isn't the player to push the team over. And he's only signed for another year. That's a crazy price for a one year rental.

We can beat the Jets right now.

Personally I think any team in the North has a shot at going deep this year. The Leafs are the only team that have dominated the Oilers. If they can improve in enough areas they might be able to give the Leafs a run for their money.

I think you're in the minority there. Sutter seems hell bent on running Gaudreau out of town. Two firsts and the equivalent of a 2nd is a fair price for one more year of Gaudreau.

Yeah, sorry. We’re not trading Gaudreau to Edmonton short of overpayment. We’d want Holloway.

Totally get you on this. I am convinced Gaudreau is going somewhere... and if Edmonton offers the best deal Calgary should take it.

Like I said, it's a tough trade to make. Can't deal Holloway to the Flames for 1.1 years of Gaudreau. I think the 1sts are great value for the Flames and Benson, if you look at his numbers, is really doing well in the AHL.

Most of them seem pretty fair from the value side. Doubt Calgary trades Gaudreau to the Oil. The others seem reasonable.

You’re our division rival... I’d want Holloway, 2021 1st, Russell, Turris for Gaudreau and Ryan@50%.

Playoff bound teams can't really afford to make a lot of trades at this time of year and one of the big reasons is chemistry. You dance with the people who bring you.

If a team does need to add for a playoff run they'd best keep it simple and not do a whole lot to mess up the mix in the locker room or on the ice.

Could you imagine Gaudreau feeding the puck to McDavid? It would be pretty special. That being said we would want an A prospect in the deal for sure.

It's definitely a fair price. I'd make that trade, but hold my nose doing it. Trading our best offensive player to the Oilers and watching him eclipse 100 points playing with one of those two goal sucks would hurt. That said, the cap doesn't work for any of these deals. Oilers have to make dollar in/dollar out trades.

Trade 1 I have doubts because of Koskinen's deal next year. Sabers picking up the 4.5m ehh. I get Sabers don't have signed g but Koskinen at that salary? No thanks.

Trade 2 Getz for 2/expiring is what I would offer. Competition might make it 2 and 3 or 2 and prospect.

Trade 3 done no take backs ;). In all seriousness Gus's strength is pp and you have that in Barrie. Oilers have enough offense.

Trade 4 Johnny for 2 1's and prospect. Lets be real and assume Johnny won't resign in Edmonton. 2 1's and prospect is what I would offer and Flames fans I would suspect say its light. Would also say I would trade draft pick compensation on d or g before Johnny if Edmonton gm.

Overall not bad offers. I see a little favoritism toward Oilers but far far far better than other fans/fans bases (I will play nice and bite tongue who I am thinking of).

Instead of going after Gaudreau, I'd take half those assets and add it to the Sabres trade to try and get Hall at 50% instead.
Hall wouldn't fit with either of your two centers. Oilers should be going after a puck distributor, not a puck dominator. Schwartz out of St. Louis would be a good fit too.

Hall fits with Drai. They've played together and had great chemistry. Run a top 6 of:

Nuge-McD-JP
Hall-Drai-Yamo

But I agree, Schwartz would be a great fit. He would also cost significantly more than Hall.

Edmonton isn't getting out of the Koskinen without giving up something of value.
Calgary if they have to trade JG will take less to send him as far away from Alberta as possible, eastern conference for sure, I'd love NJ but more than likely PHI or PITT

He had 19 goals in 72 games played with Hall. I get that he was a younger player then, but those aren't great Draisaitl numbers. Hall was also a much better player 5 years ago then he is today. I stand by my point that a player like Gaudreau or Schwartz would be much better fits. Heck even Krejci would if the B's sell. Gaudreau took a guy like Lindholm from a 20 goal, 45 point type to a 30 goals 75 point type. He's still absolutely an elite offensive driver. He's just playing with a guy who would be a very pedestrian 2nd line center without him and a replacement level guy in Ritchie.

If the Oilers do want to trade with the Flames they should go after Derek Ryan. He's the kind of secondary depth guy a playoff bound team needs plus they don't have to carry his contract and cap hit into next season.
