I think Jake is perfect for what we need. I don’t think it’s fair for a rebuild to have some scrub constantly letting in bad goals every night. That’s so deflating for the kids and so Jake will provide solid goaltending to give the team a chance on most to at least stay in games, but he won’t be stealing 10 games a year like price would. So I think this is a perfect in betweeen

I feel like trading him was the best option back when teams were struggling to find suitable goaltenders but I get that Montreal doesn't want to play another season with absolutely atrocious goaltending in front of a young team. Not the choice I would have made but it's fine. Plus it's clear that despite the Habs not being anywhere close to contending Jake wants to be there.

Not good but with price on litr they can afford

I think this is fine. It is a reasonable AAV and term. We need a goalie and Allen has been decent, especially considering the abysmal team in front of him. IMO this contract is easily traceable if needed.

it's a good deal for an average starter. There's also no guarantee he will play out his contract in Montreal. I don 't think he's dealt this year, but during the next two TDL is a possibility.
This is a warning at Primeau and Montebeault ( who let in an atrocious goal vs Leafs)
that their jobs are on the line.

Gorton said as much on Nilan's podcast that the goaltender position was wide open and they're looking for that post-CP31 starter.

Allen is the seat-warmer for now.

Good signing. He's going to get shelled so he'll earn it. I'm not sure theHabs are convinced that Primeau is the long term solution. This buys them time.
