The situation wouldn’t be reversed because Matthews isn’t dumb enough to do what Laine did. That probably explains why all those “Laine is better than Matthews” threads with 100+ pages from a few years ago have all mysteriously been deleted.

This isn't a difficult concept but this is a result that goes against the Leafs so I'm not surprised this thread is about 50/50 in opinions.

Like yes, results do matter to an extent, but in cases like this where the consequences could be catastrophic you go big in punishment the first time to dissuade it from happening again. Drunk driving doesn't always end in a crash, maiming, or death, but you take away a persons license and potentially prison time because if things go wrong the results can be catastrophic.

Virtually every infraction in hockey could lead to a severe injury under certain circumstances.

Attempted has a maximum sentence of life, depending on several factors, some examples. Was a firearm used, self defence, intent etc.
Not necessarily life.

Xhekaj should be given a fairly hefty suspsenion for what he did. BUT The NHL needs to change the way it does business because its history of supplemental discipline nearly demands that he (or someone else) does what he did.

This is all a failure of officiating and DoPS.
