One happened during play. The other happened after a goal was scored and the player chased him down, like Hunter did to Turgeon, just the outcome was not close to the same.

Here’s a case where Leaf fans should be happy they penalize based partly on outcome.

Hunter got 21 games.

If the situation was reversed, and Auston Matthews might be out for the year because a Laval Rocket going knee-on-knee with him, these threads would be hundreds of pages calling for the removal of the Habs organization and for Reaves to fight everyone.

That's what makes this such an interesting read.

The situation wouldn’t be reversed because Matthews isn’t dumb enough to do what Laine did. That probably explains why all those “Laine is better than Matthews” threads with 100+ pages from a few years ago have all mysteriously been deleted. :D

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Although I don't think this deserves a suspension, the league is playing with fire allowing Xhekaj to play on Oct 9th. Expect some fireworks for this season opener.
I mean, what can they do? Wait for the Habs preseason to be over to suspend him?

Preemptively also suspend Reaves, Pezzetta and Benoit while they're at it?

Xhekaj has no reason to be scared of Reaves.

And according to you since all the players were fine. No one has any reason to be scared of him.

No damage. Puts his team behind the 8 ball by a penalty.
Or he puts his team behind the 8 ball by being a liability on the ice.

That guy on the ice makes it easier for the leafs to win so ultimately this is a good outcome for Toronto

season-ending knee on knee on high profile Habs player goes completely unpunished, and your takeaway is "anti Leafs conspiracy"?

the dissonance is incredible

But no Leafs fan would care if Pare got punished. No one would care if he were cut tomorrow, he’s not even a consideration on the depth chart.

The dangerous precedent here is punching an unwilling to fight dude in the back of the head gets no discipline.

You punish the action because even if everybody got lucky and they walked away scot-free, the next time might not be so lucky and someone could be severely injured. This isn't a difficult concept but this is a result that goes against the Leafs so I'm not surprised this thread is about 50/50 in opinions.

Like yes, results do matter to an extent, but in cases like this where the consequences could be catastrophic you go big in punishment the first time to dissuade it from happening again. Drunk driving doesn't always end in a crash, maiming, or death, but you take away a persons license and potentially prison time because if things go wrong the results can be catastrophic.

Virtually every infraction in hockey could lead to a severe injury under certain circumstances.

Actually in Canada both murder and attempted murder have a max life sentence
Attempted has a maximum sentence of life, depending on several factors, some examples. Was a firearm used, self defence, intent etc.
Not necessarily life.

ah, I'm glad your brought this up, LeafsNet. actually, playing in the SCF is like the SCF for Montreal fans. we were there 3 years ago.

have you ever seen Leafs SCF in your lifetime? a 2nd round win even?

you're too easy

When’s the banner raising ceremony? Also, nobody took the COVID invitational seriously.
Your comments are about as weak as that silly avatar of yours.

:D

Imagine thinking Montreal is Canada’s Team Hahahahahaha

There was discipline, just not enough in the minds of some.
