I got this in my email:

MSG+ IS MOVING
TO THE GOTHAM SPORTS APP
This fall, MSG+ will move to the new Gotham Sports App and along with the YES App will create one destination for the best NY sports apps. The Gotham Sports App will continue to provide the same access and services you’re familiar with from MSG+ but will also include the option to stream the YES App, including the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Nets, free with an eligible TV subscription or available as an upgrade to an existing MSG+ subscription.

MSG+ is one of the worst streaming apps out there and if you add the cost into the equation - it’s one of the worst values too. Good thing I can get away with being a subscriber for only 7 months a year October through April.

I guess it's good they're knocking down the cost a bit but I'm in the camp of sticking with cable until the end and I know I'm in the minority. I can't get past the fact that even if you got this (and it doesn't work for me as a Mets fan but for arguments sake I'll say I'm a Yankees fan), you would still need MAX, ESPN+, DTC ESPN, Apple TV+, Amazon Prime, Peacock, etc to be able to watch all of your teams games. At $42 a month and not getting all the games plus playoffs you're already approaching a basic Fios/Cable package. And the fact that streaming is usually 30-45 seconds behind a cable feed just makes it a complete non-starter for me since I'm constantly talking to people during games. If they ever find a way to get streaming on pace with cable time wise that would be a game changer for me and a lot of other people.

What was the cost of just the Rangers games on MSG+ prior to this?

If im out of town without a Cable package and a huge fan that just wants to stream just the games 10$ a month doesnt seem terrible to me.

But the streaming quality is definitely an issue, always is.

MSG+ was $30 a month prior to this and you need to be within the Rangers TV territory to be able to watch games on it. If you're out of market, you could just get ESPN+ and it'd be way cheaper anyway.

Is the $9.99 for games only per month or $9.99 PER game?

Use a free streaming websites like the rest of the world uses. So many of them are available. Only an idiot pays for these crappy apps.

I'm with you. I'm out of town (Charlotte, NC), and still use DirecTV with Center Ice and the Sports Pack. Center Ice is now $69 for the entire season. The best thing with this option is that I get all the pre-game and post-game coverage on MSG itself. With Center Ice only, or ESPN+ only, it's just the game.

I also stream ESPN+ and Peacock through the XBox. ESPN+ is only for those stupid exclusive games, but it does help for some local college games that aren't available. My daughter likes to watch NC State women's basketball and every game is available with ESPN+.

Peacock is actually worth the $6. Premier League and some movies are available.

does anyone know if we would be able to get rangers games on espn+ in the ny market if you use a vpn?

In my apt bldg we have a bulk deal for cable and internet. $60 a month and I get all the channels incl msg, msgsn, msg2, msgsn2, yes, sny, espn, showtime, hbo etc and the icing on the cake is since my cell phone plan is also with spectrum for, wait for it, $30 a month + 1 free line, I can watch my entire cable box of channels on my phone anytime anywhere on the spectrum app. I watch Rangers games walking through the grocery store or on the subway. Its ridiculous.

Interesting...and yet you can't get a senior discount from them. Unbelievable.

Yeah, I dont know about other cable companies, if they do that. My mom, 99 years old .. has comcast. She pays over $200 for cable and doesnt even have msg or msg2, so I have to watch the Rangers games at her house every week when Im visiting on my phone. I have a phone that folds open so not so bad. Maybe comcast does, I never thought to ask. I have to check now. Thanks for bringing to my attention!!

We do have quite a few seniors in my apt building so at least they get it but its just a bulk discount not a senior discount.

Come to think of it my mom doesnt get a senior discount on anything. Not on real estate taxes, I did check on that.

What things out there for your typical senior can you get a discount on?
