The Bunting homerun negates most of that anyway, and Dubas flipped Ritchie into a decent D too.

It's a numbers game. Throw enough darts you have a better shot at a dud and a HR, but you have to at least be throwing. For this, I like Dubas and teams effort.

Bunting is a HR as he ensures your two top stars are effective and motivated. Top line stars aremtough to find and Bunting will be here for a fee more years (does he become an RFA in two years?) at a reasonable rate.

I liked the Ritchie signing and even when the team decided it wasn't working out, I really like Lyubuskin. Mzarek to me didn't make sense, it was a failsafe if Campbell faltered but it was an odd choice at.an odd term IMO.

It is what it is. Some other team might take a shot and pick him up, or, he could still be traded if Leafs take salary back.

Mrazek wasn’t my first choice either going into FA but seeing as he was the first major goalie signed FA day you have to assume there was other suitors

What a wretched season for Mrazek. He's been a 1B goalie for the better part of a decade. Very surprising to see a veteran come in and play as badly as he has, the last month in particular has been heinous. Hutchinson and Sparks level of implosion, he'll be remembered poorly for a long time. His contract wasn't particularly outrageous to begin with, at least it seemed like if he didn't fit we would be fine to flip him. But instead it's like he forgot how to play the position and is now a massive liability that might cost us a substantial piece to move. Utterly brutal.

At least Dubas has the guts to own it and move on from the Ritchie and Mrazek deals. Dumping Ritchie didn't cost us anything, fingers crossed that dumping Mrazek won't either.

Teams were interested in Mrazek a few months ago. Now? Dubas will have to include a pick or two to shed the contract. That'll be an off-season move.

Dubas really knows how to fix his mistake. So many GMs just play it off like it's gonna be okay. I love that about him. He knows mrazek isn't a fit and he's gonna figure it out without wasting time. Good on him.

One thing I love about Dubas is when a mistake is made, he fixes it. Guy has f***ing balls.

I much prefer that approach. The Leafs are a wealthy organization., so much so that they were fiercely in opposition to the salary cap.

Any dollar losses may seem bad, but the forced cap itself has saved the team plenty of money anyways over the yesrs as they would have spent many millions more per year.

It may not be relevant, but Mrazek has a ten team no trade list. If the Leafs have a deal agreed to with another team that is on the no trade list, this is one way to enable the trade to go through. (Arizona???)

Even if the team is not on the NTC, riding the buses in the AHL may open up the list. Not expecting his Marlie team mates to welcome him with open arms when he is making so much more than everyone else.

I kind of hope the Leafs can get a handle on the cap and get back to just making sound hockey deals instead of the constantly "making bets" that need to be cleaned up. Too much of the roster is constantly in flux.

First off, it’s his own mistake that he created. Second of all, I see no fix here. Our goaltending is still garbage.

Did anyone say it wasn't his mistake? No GM's bat .1000, and betting on a guy coming off a season with a .923 sv% last year isn't this horrible thing. He flopped. Imagine how Seattle feels with Grubauer.

If nobody is willing to take him right now, then this is pretty close to 'fixing his mistake' as it's saving on cap and maybe we won't have to see him completely lose his net again.

I give the guy credit. I'm personally a fan. It's rare to see a GM be willing to admit his mistakes. He messed up with Ritchie, he fixed it. He messed up with Mrazek, he's willing to publicly show that and attempt to right the wrong. Not a lot of GMs are willing to admit they misfired. Especially within the first year of a deal

Yep. Risto got extended because they refused to admit mistake

I was never that excited about the signing but it’s hard to imagine he would put up the worst numbers of his career here to be waiver consideration.

It’s like he and Ritchie hat couldn’t handle the spotlight in Toronto

Ritchie was a super bad signing to begin with. Boston did not even qualify Ritchie; Boston fans were overjoyed and did not care that they were losing Ritchie for nothing. That should have been the first signal... but....
