I think he is fine, but like many others on team, at his AAV it is way too much for a backup tender .. clearly team has to resign Soup so likely that means this guy is gonzo given CAP issues on team

The awkward thing about his situation is he’s not a backup tender, doesn’t make a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, but if Campbell is who we think he is, we’re not going to be looking at a tandem goalie set up.

He's had moment soft looking great. Though the rust is still there.

Will probably take a couple more games for him to rev up to regular season form

I think we have to give it, at minimum, this season and postseason to make that determination

feel there are durability issues with both guys

When is the next time we might see this guy in net?

I don’t mind the idea of playing him more in a condensed schedule coming up but unfortunately for cap reasons this should be his one and done year in Toronto. Good athleticism, can’t stay healthy. Seems to be able to stand on his head and make spectacular plays but also plays spastic and will let in some sloppy ones here and there. Seems to be the trend of his career.

Between a rock and a hard place with Mrazek.

On the one hand, it's obvious Jack is our #1 and Peter is being paid too much as the #2. It wasn't drawn up this way, but that's where we are.
On the other hand, I don't know who we can acquire, or have in the system, who is, a) better, and b) cheaper. I'd trust PM over anyone we have, and the cost to acquire a better priced, comparable #2 would be???

Fluery out of Chicago at 50% would save us 300k this year in salary, Mrazek could buy them some time to develop their younger goalies, but I'd think the cost high. A Campbell/Fluery tandem would be nice heading into the playoffs.

It was very risky going into the season with Soup and Mrazek. Still is really

He's been fine, far better than his stats suggest. He's had the unfortunate privilege of playing a couple games where the Leafs decided defense was optional.

We just need to get him some games to get his trade stock up for the summer. The problem is 1st in the division is going to be huge this year. They might end up riding Campbell hard.

3 games...he basically hasn't even been a leaf.

Might be wiser to give Mrazek some games behind one of the best D in the league and get his numbers up. I'd move his first chance I got and acquire a veteran backup like Holtby or Halak at the TDL.

with all this covid nonsense and one game every 5 years, I honestly forgot this guys on our team

It feels like a mutual lack of confidence between goalie and team. You need the goalie to bail out the team and the team to bail out the goalie. Mrazek plays such a wild game that there’s always a chaotic feel around him. Like a bad buzz.

He's capable of being calm - like that New York game. I suspect he needs more starts to get into a grove.

Controversial take, but I think he actually had a good game today... At least for a guy with a sub .900 save percentage.

Our team was awful in front of him today. I didn't like the rebound control on the 2nd goal and 4th goal against from Larkin in the high slot beat him a little bit too clean... But he made a lot of huge saves that kept our team within reach when they had no business being in that game. Compared to what we have been getting out of Campbell recently, I can't really complain.

I just found it funny when they were suggesting playing Campbell back-to-back against Jersey when it was 4-2 like it was Mrazek's fault it was that bad. How these guys get paid big money to make those kind of suggestions is beyond me.

I think when InGoal magazine profiled him they talked about how he played a style of game that suited the Leafs "environment" defensively via Clear Sight and he does have a very streaky style where he can be absolutely white hot but also a bit of a tire fire as well. If you remember he was the guy in net on the wrong side of the Leafs-Hurricanes 8-6 come back win, and he was the goalie who first got hurt by diving out of his net in the David Ayres game.

Glad we escaped Detroit with a win but I think the team and both goalies have a lot of work to due to get up to a lean mean contender level of play. They kind of established a high bar earlier in the season so hopefully they have the recipe to get back there.

your not wrong ...... he was good wether they ould have won or lost ........
the 4th goal he didnt see at all , no goalie would have stopped that one. that second goal was all his fault.... oooof it was bad

That's a bit too much of a hot take for me personally, but he kind of won ugly a la Grant Fuhr in the 80s if we're digging deep for positives. The thing that seemed to jump out at me was the guessing game, which produced a lot of leaky goals against, but also the high danger scramble saves. If and when he's in a groove, you'd like to see those moments calm down and become more routine plays.

The defense did nothing for him on it either though. Needs better rebound control, but I think the defense should have been able to bail him out on that one.

Fortunately, I think he did much better with rebound control the rest of the game. It was mostly just that one goal.
