Now that Mrazek is healthy, continue Mrazek discussion here.

I'm sure he's still a little rusty, but I definitely did see similarities of Andersen in his play. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I couldn't trust him the same way I trust Campbell.

My initial impression is that he's an excellent reflex goaltender, but needs to work on his positioning and awareness (likely due to his extended absence). If he stays healthy, he should be a solid 1B.

It’s too early to write Mrazek off. The contract looks to be an obstacle in regards to resigning Campbell. Curious to see how this will play out with Campbell.

I wish his rebound control were better.

I wish he could stop the play/get a whistle instead of booting the puck out.

I think he was up and down in the same game like Andersen could be, but seems to get into scramble mode a little too easily and is more active in the crease than he needs to be, almost like a young Marc-Andre Fleury was prone to being. Andersen was more of a structured, technique and ideal frame kind of goalie who struggled once he had to really improvise and battle.

Campbell seems to have a better ability to control momentum, quiet the game, calm the waters.

Why are people over analyzing a 3 game sample size with the recent start being his first in months.

As shown against Chicago , he has the ability to make game saving stops. Once he gets acclimated to the new system and the defense regresses back to its norm, he’ll be a fine platoon option.

Tough to establish any sort of rhythm without seeing the ice consistently enough. It hasn't been the best start for him, but "start" is the key word there.

A backup generally doesn't see the ice consistently. He's been horrible so far, worse than Woll. He went to the Marlies and put up an .846 save %. I don't know why they didn't give him more games to condition because he's definitely not playing like an NHL goaltender right now.

I think the intention for the goalie tandem is to resemble something closer to a 1A/1B situation instead of having clearly defined starter and backup roles. I certainly expected Mrazek to have played in more than three games to this point. I'd say the injury and long time in between starts both evenly contribute to his horrible play thus far. Hopefully he can play better and more often than he has.

He still makes me very very nervous I know he's 2-1 but those 2 wins were both 5-4 and Saturday they were up 4-1

Hopefully he can get it together

We can only analyze what we've seen up to this point...

Mrazek isn't really a backup goalie though.

Looking at the goalie situation, I would have expected the Leafs to use him and Campbell at a 50/50 or 60/40 split and if Campbell regressed this season it would have opened up the possibility of re-signing him cheaper, or we go out and build a Mrazek-Korpisalo or whatever other UFA goalie next summer. Who knows what will happen the rest of the way, but I think we need Mrazek to be as good as he can be and keep options open, aka trade him in the summer.

Guy made a bunch of great saves throughout Saturdays game, and the team in front of him wasn’t strong the last two periods.
Agree with Stephen. Leafs definitely need him to round into form the rest of the way. Tough start to the year from a health perspective, and he’s got the track record. Wishing him good success and health.

He's a big goalie who plays like a little goalie. Too frenetic. Too much of that old school charging out to challenge shooters to take away shooting angles. Not a fan of that style of goaltending in the modern game. It leaves you vulnerable to easy tap-ins and the like. He is however the type of goalie who is going to make insane saves.

I didn’t even realize he was listed at 6’2, he literally looks like he’s 5’10 in net. But you pretty much summed him up.

He looks so small in the net. His positioning is horrible. Reflexes are great and plays the puck well.

SMall sample. Need far more games

I think this explains it all really well. He plays smaller than he is (I too thought he was a shade under 6 feet as opposed to being 6'2"). He's a little too "jumpy" in net for me -- not overly steady. It's night and day in comparison to Campbell who looks like he barely moves in net. So that'll lead to some weak goals going in because of it, but he'll also make spectacular saves when compensating for it.

At times it's like an adventure with him in net where you close one eye holding your breath if a weak shot is going to see its way through. I do think though when he settles in and get a few more games under his belt, he'll go on a serious run where he'll be lights out.

I think he is fine, but like many others on team, at his AAV it is way too much for a backup tender .. clearly team has to resign Soup so likely that means this guy is gonzo given CAP issues on team
