What's the record for most shots on goal without scoring one? By a team and by a player? Thanks in advance.

Ron Tugnutt let in a few (? - not sure) playing for the Nordique against The Bruins, but faced 70+ shots back in the day. Best single game performance I've seen from a goalie. Ray Bourque skated over and congratulated him as you just had to tip your hat to that. Was just a shooting gallery all game but he was dialed in. 10 bell chance after 10 bell chance. I think Bourque had nearly 20 shots himself that game.

edit: just looked it up and yep, as good as I remembered. Right down the wire and Ray Bourque wiring a slapshot to the top corner unconstested from the slot and Tugnutt ripped out the glove with only a few seconds left.
Not a shutout though.

The Sharks legitimately should have scored 12 goals in that Scrivens game.

Far as I'm concerned it's the best single game goalie performance that has ever happened.

i wonder if 59 in 3 periods is more or less impressive than 70 in 6.25 periods?

that scrivens game was insane. he was under absolute seige

That's a great question. I feel like the degree of difficulty has to have been higher facing ~20 shots a period than ~10, but the mental and physical stamina needed to maintain a shutout for 6+ periods really can't be overlooked.

Plus it was game 6 and an elimination game for Buffalo which ramps up the intensity.

This thread is the antithesis of when the Islanders out shot the Red Wings 49-16 and still lost 8-4. Jeff Hackett allowed 8 goals on 16 shots and never got yanked despite still being in the game late in the second period when Hackett had already allowed 4 goals on his first 7 or 8 shots against if I remember correctly.

not exactly what the title asks for, but the Canucks beat the Stars in 7 games in the 2007 playoffs. Marty Turco had 3 shutouts that series but they still lost, making it the first time (and I think only time) that's happened.
