I think I believe in Dallas. That team is just sneaky strong. They will need God tier goaltending, but I like how they are built.
There's a lot to like with the Stars, but there are also some weak spots that i think have been glossed over a little bit because of the other things going well for them.
Like...Colin Miller has had a pretty good rebound season, but do you honestly want your best defenceman having to lug him around, or the broken corpse of Ryan Suter? Everything on the line...playoff crunch time, that feels like a weakness to me. Hidden by how good Heiskanen has been, but playoffs are the time when those sort of little flaws start to get more exposed.
I think it's the same think a little bit with their depth down the middle. That top line is obviously golden and hides a lot of problems. Wyatt has brought solidity to that "2nd/3rd Line" whatever you want to call it with Benn. But i'm not completely sold on that 2/3 punch of Seguin/Johnston. Relying on a veteran who is fading and a rookie as a sort of tandem. Domi being part of the equation doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence either.
Could be fine. Could be nothing. But it doesn't feel like it's to the same level of top quality depth that teams in the East can boast.
Boston with Bergeron-Krejci-Coyle is just stacked, with guys who have been there, done that and proven themselves to earn the T-Shirt. Rangers have a lot of experience between Zibby/Trochek/Chytil that lets them spread that winger depth around. Tampa also miss McDonagh on defence, but have that same depth up front and down their center ice lineup. That's still where i tend to look at a playoff team when estimating their chances. Center ice, defence, goaltending. Not sure i see a team in the West that has that all completely shored up this year. Maybe Vegas?
