Heineman is showing that lekhonen tenacity. Lekhonen is the better rounded player but heineman has some unoque power. Love how he puts the shoulder down.

It reminds me just a little bit of Erik Cole. When he came off the wing with speed. You knew exactly where he was going and you knew there was chaos coming.
He was able to brute strength past Gudas tonight, which was impressive. Love his mix of speed and strength.

1. Dach
2. passing on Michkov (and this year instead of Demidov it could be Silayev, Dickinson, Yakemchuk, Buium or Parekh)

In your 2nd scenario, I'd rather have Demidov to be honest, and quite easily. I just like him more, no matter how badly I wanted Michkov and thought he was a no brainer.

The book is still out on all the D you listed as well, including Reinbacher. I am a big fan of Dickinson though, but he's a LHD.

I think people are way too harsh on Dach and he's going to prove a lot of people wrong. Kid has everything needed to reach his potential and is working on getting back to where he was before the injury. He missed an entire year of hockey, where instead of working on his game, regressed physically and mentally. It's going to take time. Last year, Caufield's shot went to shit because of the shoulder surgery (and the posters here started shit-talking him too) and now look! Top of the league in goals scored.

Damn we could’ve had Michkov oh no that would’ve been awful thank god Gorton Bobrov and Hughes didn’t listen to the fans
Michkov would go a handful of games without a point, and someone would start a thread on the tradeboard asking what he’s worth. You don’t want a gm that appeases the fans, that’s why we drafted Leblanc.

So what? He's a PPG rookie, already a star with the team, his coach, and the fans and doesn't need excuses made for his underperformances because he's not underperforming.

Agreed with this for sure I'm not convinced Leblanc was drafted to appease the fans as a primary consideration.

In your head
I actially feel Newhook is like Lekhonen.. i serviceable 3rd liner who can slot into top 6 in case of injury

Except he can't play defense, which was Lekhy's bread and butter...

I was happy to get Barron and a 2nd for Lehky, I still think it was the right move to trade him. But we paid more, in order to get a way worse player in Newhook, a few years later.

1. Reinbacher - has to be right now, a bad season followed up by a wasted season
2. Barron - not as big stakes as Dach but an actually terrible player
3. Dach - good season followed by wasted season followed by awful season, still hope but not a great trend, but if he can become a skilled 3rd liner its alright
4. Nepohook - pure Quartexx nepotism and a not very good player. Low-ish stakes though. Hughes overpaid to get his guy which makes me scared of what’s going to happen with Matheson long term.

Some of you guys are still complaining about losing Eller a decade later yet want to move on from arguably the biggest mistake in the franchise in recent history.

I tought the overreaction about Eller was unreel at the time.....probably has more to do with wich management made the mistake

I think its because it has been rehashed 1000 times and I'm not exaggerating. There's likely even more posts on the subject on this board. At least the narrative now isn't only about Montreal, but about every single team that picked in front of Philadelphia.
If Michkov is a 90 point player or more it's absolutely deserved to be brought up a billion more times. Especially after the laughable takes on here about him to try and justify not picking him. I don't really give a shit about the other teams, I care about the Habs. You can't build an elite team by saying, "look, this team also sucks so it's okay".

We haven't had a star forward since Damphousse, forgive fans for being upset about passing up on this type of talent. Also let's not pretend that if he was having a poor rookie year the "where are the Michkovians" and other 1000 posts crapping on him wouldn't appear.

Since the vast majority wanted Michkov, badly. I'm sure we would see a 1000 posts of people dunking themselves on a daily basis if Michkov had a rough rookie season... Not.

I don't agree with the last part. It's about Montreal and Montreal only.

Other teams either had players from the same tier to choose from or were told not to draft him (Arizona).
And Reinbacher might be in the same tier. Certainly Carlsson is not any better. And as fragile as a china doll.

There were already hundreds for when he got scratched in the KHL where the term "Michkovian" appeared, so it definitely is a lot of people that were eagerly hoping he'd be a flop.

He wasn't in the same tier at the draft, which is the whole point.

If you reach and make a mistake it isn't the same as if you pick Carlsson over Michkov when these two were basically neck to neck in the rankings.

If Will Smith fell to #5 and the Habs picked him instead of Michkov no one would be mad.

He was definitely in the cards if we just kept the pick. The trade is a loss. And being good for 1 game isn’t something I’m going to brag about.
He was very good for more than one game. Be honest. habs never had the intention to keep pick #13 at all.
